Ok all, please don't beat me with the noob stick! I know oil and filters are a bad topic to bring up, but I could use a little advice here, please. I got the coolant change done and all seems well Smiley Now I want to change the oil while I'm at it. I pulled the chrome cover off my oil filter and I have a K&N 303 on there now. It has a bolt that goes through it. Problem is I don't have another K&N on hand today.  I DO have a NAPA 1358 because thats's what I use on my '91 Wing. No bolt going through the NAPA filter. Before I get down there and start working on the bike, I thought I'd ask the collective here. So, the question is, will the NAPA filter screw on? Or do I need to get another K&N filter with the bolt running through it? Again, I'm sorry for bring up anything oil related on this beautiful Sunday. But, you guys did hold my hand through my first coolant change and all went well, and nobody got mad at me......I think Smiley......Another option might be to re-use the K&N, my oil has about 2000 miles on it.

I can't answer your question about the NAPA filter, but are you sure there is a bolt running throught he K&N or just a nut on the end for removal.

Um......probably for removal? Thats why I'm asking here, to see if anyone else knows before I take it off. I could just reuse the K&N, I do need my bike to get to work tomorrow.

I'd reuse what's on there, bolt or no bolt. With 2,000 miles on the oil and presumeably the filter as well, there should be no problem reusing the K&N.

+1 cooldude

Agreed, when I did a search on that NAPA # I found a site that showed the innards.  It doesn't have a lot of filter medium in it.  Re-use the K&N for now and next time go with a Pure One PL14610.  It's a little longer, but an excellent filter.

I reused the K&N filter. I looked at the oil as it came out and it looked fine. I was changing it due to time more than miles. I dumped out all of the old oil and put the K&N right back on. All good. Thanks for the help.

The nut on top of the K&N is for ease of removal.  There is no bolt running through the filter.
