Finally got down to Motad and had the new exhaust fitted on my bike, I had some input in designing this new system or at least not, as I got them to follow the pattern of the oem system but on stainless steel.
This is all new tooling, nothing has been copied from the 1500 wing, so what we have is a complete 2 piece system in stainless, yes that’s right the muffler can be removed without the headers I also got them to make the muffler cover in stainless and tail pipe in stainless, they haven’t made the front cover so you’ll need one from your old system, I think if we have enough interest they might consider manufacturing this cover as well. They used the oem system as a template so these new parts should be interchangeable with the original chrome cover and tips on a stock exhaust, again with enough interest I’m sure they will make them available separate from the complete system. I got the tips made as long as I dared (16”) but I think not too long, I like them, but there is room to shorten or mod should a buyer want to.
Standard baffled system no glass pack, sounds awesome or at least I think so, without being too loud, just nice rumble, spent a couple of days on the bike with meJulie on the back in Yorkshire over the weekend and she said she didn’t notice it being loader than before.
Now techie bit.
We dyno tested the bike for comparison before and after, 2 runs before and one run after, (computer no behaving) I did the runs and it being my first time on a dyno, well I aint no pro. These runs weren’t to see how powerful the valk is, (we all know that anyway) they were just to make sure the new system has no detrimental effect on performance, think we showed that.
As a note on readout as I’m sure questions that I can’t answer will be asked I’ve got the Mario fifth gear, running a ct 205-55. Don’t know if that makes any difference.
This system is available to buy now from the manufacture and they are offering a club discount of 20% off any system ordered before the end of April 2012
The cost is retail £495 (UK plus V.A.T) less the 20% so your US price is about £400 (about 640 US at today’s rate) plus shipping, get in touch direct with Motad at
sales@motad.co.uk
As a note I have no connection with Motad, I heard they wanted to build a system for the valk and offered my bike for them to work on, was too cold to ride far in February anyway.
hopefully I’ll get time tomorrow and get a couple of pictures posted but if you’ve seen a stock system with 16” slash cut tips, now imagine that in polished stainless your nearly there.

Are those 1-1/2" header pipes versus the 1-1/4" header pipes of the OEM system? Are the header pipes double or single wall? Those of us with superchargers really benefit from the 1-1/2" headers. Thanks!!

That was quick. I already got my answer direct from Motad:

"Headers are single skinned 1 1/4 which work very well on stock motors and I think could well deal with extra power."

the dyno vids are not really worth a look for the sound, I’ll see what I can do later and get something posted

Those look sharp.  Nice job!  With those pipes, it's probably time for another tour of the Colonies. cooldude

It's interesting that a larger company is offering a product to fit the Valkyrie, nearly 10 years after production discontinued, when all the other companies skedaddled like rats from a sinking ship. Looks like the company is looking for a target market for their exhaust they developed for the 1500 Wing (with minor tweaks), which has also been discontinued.  Might as well, it's already developed, only needs a little more work to target Valkyrie owners.  Reviewing the description, and photos from Mick in Manchester, good & bad points appear to be:

Stainless means they are durable against corrosion, particularly in wet environments. They can also be polished.  They may be lighter than stock, depending on the wall thickness - don't have info on this yet. They reportedly don't reduce performance per the prototype's dyno test - though with only one tested, not statistically significant.

Removable mufflers means they have a weak point like the "Easy Glasspack Mod" at the forward end that can loosen and the mufflers flop around ( the rear mount point is at the forward end of the muffler, and no other mount point is available for the muffler).  There is no add'l rear hanger to stabilize it.  The pipes are modeled on, and look like the stock pipes, with strap-on covers, no front covers yet (use the Hondaline ones, discount price 04/2012 at hdlparts.com is $135.42 + shipping) and removable tips, all with two seams between covers showing.  Headers are 1.25" O.D. same as stock, but single wall so in normal use they will color.  Might have better flow for blown bikes since the inner cross section is bigger - but for stock bikes, not so good for torque.  MSRP Mar 2012 is £495 plus shipping so normal price at today's exchange rate of 1 GBP = 1.6023USD puts them at $793.14 + shipping - assuming 45# pkg, 65X13X9", allowing $28 for packaging, shipping to CO Fedex Intl Economy, Fedex quotes $550.81.  Total is $1343.95. Add your front covers, about $280 from hdlparts or cheaper for used covers from pinwall, and you have a cost as high as $1624 for pipes that look stock but with colored headers, and of course without adjustable sound, crossover, five inch stacks, or Organ pipes, if compared to MarkT custom exhaust systems.  They may get a bit better shipping rate than Fedex Intl Economy, but UPS quotes very close. They also have a sale which lowers the price $158 if the order is placed during the sale.

The Motad exhaust looks to be a competent one, and another choice for Valkyrie owners, which is a good thing considering aftermarket offerings in general are reducing for Valkyrie owners.  The exhaust's chief benefit looks to be it's corrosion resistance. Overall cost for American customers puts the price high for an exhaust that appears stock, gets colored headers, and offers no additional benefits or options over stock.  Of course, it's much cheaper than the Hondaline OEM exhaust from the parts deprtment, but their price isn't real - I have bought many many OEM exhausts that were basically new takeoffs for $500-550 including shipping - the true street price.

I asked Motad re shipping to the States and they have given a figure of about £100 (US $160), I understand they do have a supplier in the US, so ship systems on a regular basis and therefore are not going to be paying anything like the silly amounts an individual does with Fedex. I’m sure if a genuine enquiry is made they will give a firm quote.

MarkT - Everyone knows you've a better product & configurations.
As an F6 lifer I've been preparing for a stand-by exhaust system replacement from you.
My concerns have been how long you may continue to fab & distribute your systems though.
I'll wait for the price war before ordering my MarkT system, however slight it may be.
-I know Mark, there won't be a price war-  Wink
Just a set of + & - columns.

I think it's a bit of an opportunity missed. Here we have a company willing to take on and make an exhaust system for the Valkyrie and we go and get what we already have. Would have been great to come up with something a bit different. JMHO
