Did some research but I am unclear of the results from what I can find.
Correct me if I'm wrong here...the 1997s had the most HP at 100. The following years are rated at 95 HP?
Anybody have some actual dyno testing results for all year/makes of Valkyries?

Its always been rumored the 96 and 97s had the most.. I know they had different carburetor needles and always heard the camshafts were different from the 98s, but, I've never been able to confirm that..

I bought my Valk in '96. They were advertised from the beginning by Honda as '97's.
If memory serves, most of the motorcycle magazine dyno tests indicated that the '97 Valks were developing 100 HP with 100 pound/foot of torque.

So did mine, made in 1996, but a '97. A writer for the AMA took delivery on a '97 in '96 and he wrote an article on it. He followed the bike down the Marysville production line and rode it off at the end. It was a 'bumblebee' and at, the time, it was one of the first yellow and blacks, since the rest were all black. His test ride was nothing but plusses but we all know that!

My '99 Interstate was built in March of '99, my 2k Tourer was built in August of '99, my 08 Goldwing was built in August of 2008. They are all too damn fast for me.

I had a 97 tourer first. Gave it to my son to ride after I got the 2000 Interstate. 2 months later. I had to ride the tourer. It had way more power that the Interstate. That was just my butt testing.

My understanding is that the first batch of Valks were made with a "hotter" cam, which I believe was for marketing (bragging) purposes, the 100 HP and 100 ft lb of torque performance figures. Once Honda made enough bikes to back up the performance figures they started to use slightly milder cams in the engines.
I have no inside information, but I did talk a little bit about it with an retired GoldWing mechanic, who said he tried to use one of the "hot" cams in a GoldWing, but the valve timing was too far off to work.
Just my thoughts, take it for what it is worth,
Dave

SEE SPECS BELOW... Actually, Power vs Dry-Weight-Ratio data, on each model (I/S, Tourer, Std.), would be interesting specs to compare. I am sure that my 2000 Standard dry-weights 309 kg (682 lbs.), and an extra 150 + lbs worth of accessories. Obviously, my bike's p/w ratio is different than a true OEM '00 Std. The ratio gets worst when my fat ass lands on the saddle. I submit that for a "better ish" baseline analysis across all models, one ought to start with the manufacturer's Power-Weight Specs. ??? HERE IS ONE SOURCE FOR ALL THREE 2000 Standard SPECS: http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2000models/2000models-Honda-GL1500CValkyrie.htm2000 Tourer SPECS: http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2000models/2000models-Honda-GL1500CTValkyrieTourer.htm2000 I/S SPECS: http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2000models/2000models-Honda-GL1500CFValkyrieInterstate.htm

I own a '97 and I have traded rides with a dude that had an IS (2000 or 2001 I think) We both thought the 97 standard was stronger. I rode a couple 2000 valks and it had less power than my trusty 97. So by butt dyno I can confirm the 97's seem to be stronger. Does it matter, well, not so much.......I do get mine up to 70mph every once in a while

The black 96s were the fastest. That explains why you can't find them.

It's a well documented fact that blue and cream 98's are the fastest.

My cousin, who purchased my '97 bumblebee (currently with purple tin on it) new also bought a later model to replace the 97 when he sold it. He said there was a noticeable difference power wise between the two, with the 97 feeling more awesome.
I have the Cycle World magazine from said cousin that reviewed "Hondas 100hp cruise missile". When he got that mag in the mail, he immediately when and ordered the bumblebee, sight unseen. Looking through the article, rear wheel hp is listed and 101.xx and rear wheel tq is also 101.xx
But facts aside...I personally know that 97 bumblebees with the oem tins in the garage and purple tins installed currently are by far the most powerful.
