I was going to reply to an existing one, but the board told me to post a new thread, so here it is:

My petcock is leaking fuel as seen on the picture below.

Once I put it in the off position, it stops after a little bit.

I am thinking of just replacing it, but I also want to add the electronic fuel cutoff at the same time.   Any recommendations, tips (besides the great instructions on the Shop Talk Pages), ideas, best practices?

I want to do right by the Dragon Lady.

Thanks all...

IF it was me and I put an electric fuel shut off I would convert the stock petcock to a manual valve. Still have all the functions just with no vaccum to hook up or diaphram to leak. I've been manual now for over 4 yrs.

If I am correct, having not gone through it myself, that is the weep hole on the bottom.

I can't remember what causes this, not seating or the diaphram torn. I would fix asap, as couldn't fuel leak down to carb # 6 and if you have any problems there, you need to worry about dreaded hydrolock.

Excellent advice! A Dan Marc electric fuel shut off valve and convert the oem petcock to manual.

This one leaked from the weep hole, fixed it with a cover set (rebuild kit from Honda)...

Petcock diaphragm failure! Sounds like you've got a good solution. You can rebuild the petcock for less money, if you like.

A Dan Marc solenoid is cheap insurance, along with a well functioning petcock.

My advice is to do whatever you want, just be careful when installing everything taking into consideration the position of everything once the tank in installed.. Some have reported drivability and starvation issues when similar items were installed.. Personally I believe those issues had to do with the installation and not the items..

So fudgie what are you saying? Is there a problem with a fuel shut-off valve, rebuilding petcocks, etc?

pBrain, some have reported that if the chrome knob is not straight in line with the valve when you tighten the screw you will put strain on the valve stem and create problems. I opted to go the pingel route with the in-line filter. Now I manually turn it off and on. This will be second summer with this set up. So far so good.

I read on here that some are into their 2nd or 3rd rebuild. That equals out to a price of a very very minimal problem after market petcock.

The "cover set" rebuild kit contains two diaphragms (amongst other items).  The larger diameter one is the vacuum diaphragm (item 3 in the photos); the other smaller one is the actual valve seal that shuts off the fuel flow when no vacuum is applied to the valve (item 2).  When this smaller one has a hole in it, it will allow fuel to leak out that vent hole in the bottom of the valve.  Installing the rebuild kit will solve pBrain's drip problem.

I haven't ever had to replace my diaphragm, in 50,000 miles. I did replace it once, though...
I didn't have to, I just did to feel safe. I'm sure I'd hate my OEM petcock as much as the
rest of y'all do, if I had trouble, but...

The corner gas station, where I get a lot of my gas, is ethanol free...
