Yep, a little cool this morning so took off riding with a dark gray hoody under my black mesh jacket and riding a black Valkyrie.   Rode down I-10 to Desert Center.  Pop 204 and started by an eccentric guy in 1921 who broke down there.  It has a little cafe started in 1921 that advertised "We lost our keys... we can't close!" (a reference to the fact that the cafĂ© has been open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year since it opened in 1921).  A little Post Office across the street and that is it.

I then headed N. about 25 miles on Rice Road, as straight as an arrow.  Made a left turn on 62 to head to Twentynine Palms, about 50 miles further heading West through the desert..  Occasionally a vehicle and maybe 3 - gentle curves.  It was like sitting back and watching desert scenery go by in a movie.

The Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in 29 Palms is currently home to the largest military training area in the nation (and the largest US base in the world), and consequently, the largest training program.  The majority of Marine units sent to Iraq spent a month at the Mojave Viper program, the model of the predeployment training for Iraq bound marines.  Set up to mimic iraqi villages, natives, etc..

Headed on through Joshua Tree to get some food and found some Harley riders doing the same.  Not even any profiling from them.

Had my favorite when I am here, the catfish.

Then on down the mtn about 50 miles home.  Just over 200 mi and nice to get an easy, cool ride in the desert before the blistering heat hits.  cooldude

Yeh Jess pretty rare creature, but not extinct.  This is the one I saw on my ride, don't know how they survive, some genetic thing. I reeled him in, threw it on the luggage rack and took it over to the restaurant to fry up.   uglystupid2

Lol, that 'older' bike is probably newer than your Valk, Donald, I think it's a Triumph T100 Bonneville Centennial (865cc) made around 2003.
Not wishing to hijack your thread, but we love fish and chips (fries) here in the UK. Sunset last night, I ate two portions of Atlantic Cod in beer batter and a mound of triple cooked homemade fries at the Smallest Fish N' Chip Shop in the World (possibly), after a day's riding/avoiding being murdered by holiday drivers.
