The 97 piece of s_ _ _ final drive unit that I sent back to Sun Coast Cycles and they burnt me on the 20% restocking fee is back listed again on ebay for the same $350. I urge everyone here to question him badly on the junk splines he is selling. The only good pieces on that unit is the shaft and pinion cup.

Thanks,

There was a time, a bunch of years past, where you could pick up a good final drive that would be "plug  and play."

I think those times are long gone and you would have to be extremely lucky to get hold of something like that now a days.

The best chance would be to get a final drive from those shops that make conversions to a trike. They've probably been picked clean also.

Anymore it's now to the point where if you want a new final drive you're going to have to pay for a brand new one from a Honda source, which I would think is prohibitively expensive or you're going to have to rebuild the one you have.

Looking at the used drives on E-Bay, they're a little too high priced I feel, but what can you do if the plan is to get and extra final drive to rebuild while you still plan to keep the Valkyrie on the road.

That's what I did, I got a final drive from E-Bay and took my own time to rebuild it, and only now installed it. It's been a couple of years sitting in my shop just waiting to be installed.

The main reason I'm writing this is to point out that the Valkyrie is getting to be an old issue and they are starting to outlive some of the needed parts in order to remain on the road. So if you're thinking of a future rebuild for your final drive, you'd better start planning now or you may be very disappointed when you go hunting for a final drive in the future.

If the splines are all chewed up, what would be done in order to rebuild it?  [Or am I misunderstanding and a rebuild part would need good splines, in which case that eliminates so many of the used parts fromt he rebuild pool?]

Ricky-D, I have a trike converssion shop up the road about 10 miles, they are also members of our riding club, he too rides a valk. I now plan to get in touch with him after this feasscoe to see what he can do for me or at least possibly put me in touch with one of his valk trike converssion customers that may have their old rear end for sale.
