Does "service the pinion cup" mean simply to pull the driveshaft and grease? Is there more to this?

Yes, you need to clean out the "cup", and make sure the oil holes in it are clear. Then reassemble with a small amount of grease on the splines, not moly paste. Rear end lube actually comes in and out thru those holes, lubing the cup and splines. Not the grease.
