Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Are they the same for a 04 VTX 1300 as for the Valk? Friend is looking for a generic version locally instead of going to the dealer.

I have a VTX 1300 (wife's) also along with my Valk Tourer and GL1800 Goldwing.  The VTX 1300 and Goldwing take the same filter.  The Valk's is a little longer.  The Valk's filter should screw on to the VTX 1300 alright, just don't know if the Valk's filter's extra length will fit the VTX.  For example, the Goldwing & VTX 1300 take a Wix #51365 or a Fram #PH6607.  The Valk takes a Wix #51358 or Fram #PH6017.  You could do a cross-reference for any other brand or generic filter based on the Wix or Fram numbers and you'll have the right application.  I looked up the Wix and Fram brands because they have an easy online application chart that you can use to come up with a starting point.

The one for the Valk will not fit in the small area
in front of the swing arm of your !300.
You will have to use a shorter one.
Wifes 1300R is a pain compared to the Valk.

While the aftermarket filters are different lengths from one another, Honda has consolidated some of their filter numbers.  The Valkyrie, 1500 Wing, 1800 Wing, 1300 VTX, and 1800 VTX all now take the same, shorter Hondaline filter.  If you've got an older Honda filter that's a little on the long side, as mentioned, it won't fit the VTX.
