White Flag is waving, Help!
My 98 Tourer has 95k miles now so I pulled the Alternator knowing the brushes are over due. So far the job has been OK but installing the new brushes copper tail has stopped my progress. I can't thread the things through the holder. Does the holder come out of the plate it's installed ? That would help I'm trying to fish through and I'm not close to getting one started.
Thanks for any tips I'm sure the dealer doesn't use my method.

Just tin the tips of the copper leads with solder and make sure its really thin at the tip......it will thread in there like butter

Thanks ChrisJ I got them both threaded in place. I had them tined with no luck. I think walking to the house and back did the trick Smiley
Now if my solder skills are sufficient I'm close to install.

Yep, sometimes walking away for a while clears your mind for that second look. I hope your skills pay off for you.

Soldering the tails was easy. The alternator install took 5 minutes. Remembering the removal I did the tilting to the rear with the alternator and it went in the first try.
I used the article in shoptalk by Ratdog he covered all of the possible problems and made the job a success for my first attempt.
