There's a product called Blue Job.  Yes, that's the name  Evil

Works pretty good.  No shortcut, still have to work at it.  Not sure the exact chemical reaction that the pipes undergo, but the pipes usually turn color when they are hot and there is no air movement across them.  Like when idling too long after a ride.

as metal heats up it changes colors,,on headers cars and bikes,,they get hot enough to make them glow red,,when that happens and they cool down they will turn blue, one reason it does this is if the engine is running a little lean then the exhaust temp is higher,,,the headers on the bike is a double wall pipe, thats why they dont blue,,

All Cobras turn blue.  You can use Blue Job, but keep in mind it's taking a bit of the surface each time.  Eventually it will stop working.

I was told by Mark with Horseapple Ranch that Honda's OEM's are double walled and a lot of after market pipes are single walled.

Was a little surprised when my Cobra shorties without baffels turned golden instead of blue.  Don't know what makes the difference but it doesn't look bad at all.

I bought this Valkryie used with only 10,000 miles and the person put on the Cobra Slash Pipes then put in the Cobra Jet kit for the Carb's. 087606. The pipes are really blue and someone made a comment about maybe running to lean. Do I need to worry about it or try to richen it up a little bit to get rid of the blue. I know years ago when this happened on other Honda's I had and the pipes turned blue if I would richen it up a little the blue went away on its own.

I painted the first few inches of mine with rustoleum high temp black for grills and wood stoves. Holds to 1200 degrees.

Someone else on the board did this and says they need to be touched up every so often.  What is your experience.  My double walled stock pipes turned a bit golden and I was thinking of spraying the pipes all the way back to the first heat sheild by the foot pegs.
