Good Price on Tires

I just bought two new tires for my Valkyrie Interstate.  I have had good results with the Dunlop Elite 3 tires, so that is what I just bought.  I have over 20,000 miles on my rear tire, so I am not hard on tires.

I found a good price of $395 for both the front and rear from Keel Brothers Motorcycle Tires.  I ordered them on Sunday and they came today (I live in California, so I suspect they were shipped from somewhere out here.).

Not to say my tires are better than yours...but I ordered a set of Avon Cobras today from DirectLineParts and had them price match from Chaparral Motorsports +$5.  Final price to my house is $353.76.  Should have them Monday.

They have good prices, but since I live in California, I would have to pay 8% or more sales tax.  That puts the cost above the tires from out-of-state.

All of the places I checked had the Avon Cobras less than the Elite 3.  I used to use Avon Venom R tires, but switched to Elite 3 when the Venoms were no longer available.  I seem to get a few thousand more miles from the Elite 3 that I got from the Venom R.

Hey Dave...no problems.  I tried a E3 on the rear when I found cords showing on a ride in CO and the E3 was all the dealership had.  The E3 didn't last very long...about 8k at most...but...I am REAL hard on tires.  The Avons last me about 12-15k...or one year...which ever comes first.    I am replacing a Bridgestone...which lasted about as long as the E3 for me.  So...it is back to Avons until I finally decide to swap over to the dark side...if I ever make that decision.

Not really.  It is more about the difference in the ride.  But that is a discussion for another thread on another day.  Don't want to hijack this thread any more than I already have.

Not to one up you but I got the set of E3's Im riding on now at my Honda Dealer mounted and balanced on or off the bike same price for $335.  Unfortunately I was the last one to get them at that price..........gonna be more next time.  The last time they said that the price went up $50. So If its $390 next time mounted and balanced its still pretty good

I never even thought about going to my Honda dealer.  The last bike I bought (Concours 14) was from a dealer about 140 miles from my Honda dealer (he carries Kawasaki also).  I think the thing that bothered me most about the dealership is that you would not see the same people when you made periodic visits.  There was always someone new on the sales floor.

I mount and balance my own tires with a Harbor Freight setup using a Mojo lever.  I use Dyna beads for balancing.  I like doing my own work as I can check and grease the splines and check the drive shaft, etc. 

Everyone is different and has different circumstances.  We all ride a great bike!
