Got rid of my K&N filter and purchased Stock Filter and Seals #3.  How do you keep the seals in place?  They don't stay in the grooves in the air box.  Glue? Silicone? Contact cement?

No dont use anything like goopy stuff.  Simply put the lower gasket in (it will stay all by itself).  Turn the lid upsidedown and put the upper one it it, (now that one will stay all by itself).  Now put the air cleaner in the lid upside down and it will hold it all together, then place the lid containing the filter on the airbox and you are golden.

Might be able to make it stay if its already used /taken shape but you can't even get one corner to stay with a brand new Honda seal.

How about a few dabs of non-hardening permatex in a few different places along the seal?

Go with Chrisj CMA response.    It works, that is how I have done several.

PS:   What was wrong with your K&N?   If it was dirty, they make a kit for cleaning and re-oiling them.   I get mine from O'Rielly.

Read again what whitestroke is saying. He has a circle shaped gasket that wants to stay in that shape not a rectangle. It has memory that makes it spring back to the shape it was packaged for sale.

After using silicone and temporary wood strips to hold the oring to the air cleaner housing, I tried chris's method on the lid with no luck, so I taped in the o-ring in the lid (see pic) and was able to slide tape out with air-cleaner holding o-ring in place. This would also work on the housing.

Got rid of the K&N because
K&N = more flow, better performance
Stock= better filtration, engine longevity
also hopping stock filter cuts down on deceleration popping.

Figured out the problem.  From what I previously read the o-rings are to be  removed when K&N filter is used. I had 2 sets of o-rings in top and bottom  uglystupid2
Found this out when I went to screw down the air cleaner lid, the screws were to short.
I'm going to blame this on my 55+ year old eyes.
Also don't assume you have no o-rings because you have a K&N.

The stock air filter didn't help with the popping on deceleration.
I did buy a stock exhaust setup on Ebay, not sure when I'll have time to install it though.  If that doen't stop popping it's back to square one. tickedoff

Don't forget to check all the carb boots. I tightened all mine and the popping all but quit. But let's face it, as long as the carbs flow some gas during decel, then we can get some popping. The stock exhaust just tends to mix the popping with the other noises.
