A sad day...he was a great guy.

Just my opinion but I think The Last Waltz is the best rock and roll movie of all time.  Great artists all at their peak.

Rest in peace...

Good ol' Arkansas boy. Didn't let fame bother him.

Your opinion is shared by a lot of folks.

Here is one of our Favorite songs that he did with Johny Cash...
Levon comes in on it about half way...

He played Jesse in the album..

The whole album was great .. "Legend of Jesse James"
Levon did a great job in it...

Levon Helm was and is one of my major musical influences. I have been covering Levon's and the Band's tunes for over 40 years and after all the flash in the pan pop tunes go away, the depth and richness of these tunes will live on.
Thank you for what you gave.
Here's a song from "Electric Dirt".

Another great american music legend moves on.

Just passed on the news to my son Nick. Nick (age 26), grew up on the likes of The Bands music which has always been a part of his arsenal. I've always enjoyed being able to share great, mutually appreciated tunage with him.

Never saw them in person but I recall seeing The Last Waltz when it was released on the big screen out in Hollywood in the late 70's. Truly one of the greats.

RIP Levon

Here's one more song from the Jesse James Album..
This is with Levon Helms and Emmylou Harris

Did I say I have the whole album on my MP3...
It's really some great tunes...

This is known as the forgotten album.. Of Levon Helms

Another great talent gone.

Doesn't seem like that long ago I was hammering home from the Blue/Grey Ride through Pennsylvania with the Weight among other tunes blasting through the highway noise as the countryside unrolled around me.

I must have listened to that song a thousand times before I knew it was written about Nazareth Pennsylvania.

Great post.
