So many colors to choose from yet so few stand out

Covington, TN

« on: April 20, 2012, 06:29:03 AM »

\OK, my new (to me) I/S tank will be picked up from the paint shop this week.  In that the tank I bought didn't come with the chrome thing that surrounds the gas cap, my painter asked me about transferring the one on my Standard to the I/S.  I haven't taken mine apart yet because I'm still riding with the Standard tank but, based on what my painter has told me, I'm confused as to how it attaches to the tank.  I'm pretty sure this has to be a simple process but, I don't want to screw this up.  I've got quite a bit invested in this project when you add in the belly tank that's going to be mounted at the same time.

Any feedback and or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.  Though it may be simple, it isn't obvious.  There's a reason I don't go where no man has gone before, I get lost.  Wink  Thanks again.

Rub the screw driver you are going to use over a magnet real good and then take the screws out. That way they won't drop inside your tank Smiley

I've got a set of Magnetic Screwdrivers that I use a bunch.  Thanks for that tip.  No pun intended.  Smiley

BTW, would someone please tell me what that chrome thing surrounding the gas cap is called.  I'd really appreciate it, I feel foolish calling it that chrome thing surrounding the gas cap.  Wink

You can also use a piece of painters tape over the hole when taking out the screws.

One never knows when one will need to travel.  Have gas will travel.  Cheesy

Honestly, as I've told others, it isn't about being able to ride 400 miles with out stopping for gas, it's all about stopping when I want to stop.

I believe the trim around the cap is called a henway.

Ron and Rob,
How about we get together for a ride Sunday May 12th?  I can ride down after work on Saturday May 11th, ride Sunday and then head back to MI.

Charlie,
Be more than willing to share a little wind with you and Rob on 12 May but, it'll be like it was for the Bardstown MG&E event.  Will have to depart in time to get back to work.  Let me know what, when, where and I'll do what I can to make it.  Still got my phone number?

I'll even bring my new jumper cables just in case.  Wink

Ron,
Sent email to Rob and thought maybe I could ride down to the Cincy area, you ride up, and we just screw around on some backroads for a while, then I head back to MI.  I'll keep you informed.

Ron - PM sent.

Charlie that would be great.  I can put you up when you get here.  Maybe we can ride this time instead of sitting on the side of the road!  Lots of nice roads in N KY.  If Ron makes it, we can head S/W so he's closer to home.  If not, we can hit Daniel Boone National Forest.  Nice riding through there.

I'm off to the man cave to finish putting the big girl back together.  Rear end complete last night.  New dampners and o-rings.  Pulled the shaft and pumpkin to find well lubed and in prestine condition.  I still have to wrestle the alternator back in.... tickedoff
