It doesn't "exempt" them exactly. It just doesn't affect them because they have health care for life after serving one term just as it won't affect you if you have health care.

Insurance for life......that is exactly what needs to change.   When they get out of office they need to fall back to the same plan you and me are gonna get from the Health Care Folly.

Full pension too for Congress I believe. It's disgusting the amount of waste we put up with. It's like walking into a pet store and dumping money into an aquarium full of snakes.

Total hogwash.

they do not get full salary for life, not full healthcare.

A full pension is available to Members 62 years of age with 5 years of service; 50 years or older with 20 years of service; or 25 years of service at any age.

Whatever the term of service/age requirements/payout, THEY MAKE NO CONTRIBUTIONS WHATEVER to their retirement plan.  How many of you have a deal like that where you work?

Hmm, interesting. You know, that has come up in discussion several times by people who's opinion I respect and trust so I never bothered to actually look it up.

They're still grossly overpaid, especially for their level of effectiveness. But at least they're not grossly overpaid for life.
