But after you do it two or three times in a row ( tickedoff don't ask tickedoff ) the process becomes much easier.

There is also a Gold Wing Alt that is cheaper from the stealer.

If memory serves me correctly about 3/4 way down on right is the substitute  alternator.

Save this in your favorites, it has been very helpful in my usage of it.

Also, Jeff K knows these bikes inside and out.   He currently has a Fuelie/blower bike he built.    Runs like a scalded dog if he wants to jump on it.

Thanks everyone for the input.  I thought it was "one size fits all," but I just wanted to make sure.  I went in halves with my best friend (he also has a Valkyrie) on one to put on the shelf, just in case either one needed it.  We got one at a good price from someone who was parting out a bike.

I have the kind of Karma that say's if I'm prepared for a bad event, it'll never happen.  Hopefully the altenator will sit on the shelf unused forever.  I'll be fine with that.  I'll likely put a pumpkin on the shelf for the same reason.

BTW, can these altenators be bench tested at an auto parts store, or is there no way with the drive system that it has?
