Its in the trunk of my Interstate and its not letting the right brake light work. It doesnt have a brand name on it. Some type of tail light module. By the arrows, it looks like it was made 12/97

I will post in tech also. I really wanna find out what it is.

EDIT: Sorry, I shoulda put what it does.  Its hooked up to the blinkers to make the Trunk lights work as blinkers also.

Mainly because a good percentage of readers visit only one board most of the time.

Looks like where they tapped into the wiring for your trailer lights plug.  I see a hitch on your bike.  Cool

It looks like the black plug is from wiring for a trailer hitch.
Could be some kind of module for the brake/turn signals when you're pulling a trailer

Looks like a trailer wiring break out box.  It lets the trailer lights be both turn signal and brake light on the same bulb.  Since the supply vehicle has different bulbs for brake and turn signal, it stops what would be back feed to the supply vehicle.   Without it if you stepped on the brake it would light up all the turn signal lights, and when you used the turnsignals it would flash the brake lights.

I had one wired into my bike for the trailer lights. Got mine at the local car supply store and wired it in. I had one go bad too. I am guessing the trailer plug is so you can take the trunk off ? The poster above was right, it converts the seperate blinkers/brake lights so they work one one bulb, on the bike they are seperate and on the trunk it is one bulb.

I'm just guessing without knowing which end goes to the trunk lights. if the lights go from the black trailer style plug to the interstate lights  it is a 5-4 convertor.

The other way around and it would be a vehicle to vehicle tail light convertor.  It takes your converted 4 wire signal-the trailer plug- and converts it back to a 5 wire signal.   Here's a different one:
http://www.etrailer.com/p-118158.html

You have to follow the wires to know what style of convertor you will need to replace the defective one.

Not much help but it's all I got.

EDIT:  The more I look at the picture it looks like a 5 to 4 convertor.  The 4 wire connector with the extended hood is a bit unusual and is confusing me a bit.
It could be early  hopkins 48915

or a calterm 5-4

Most auto supply carries them.  There are two types, a powered and unpowered.  The powered type is the best and will insure the lights are bright.  Sometimes the unpowered ones will sometimes have a voltage drop and the lights will be dim.  Look for trailer light converter in the trailer wireing section.
