http://www.goall.com/article/amazing-that-the-wash-post-would-actually-print-this-about-obama.htmlImagine a future historian examining Obama's pre-presidential life: ushered into and through the Ivy League despite unremarkable grades and test scores along the way; a cushy non-job as a "community organizer"; a brief career as a state legislator devoid of legislative achievement (and in fact nearly devoid of his attention, so often did he vote "present") ; and finally an unaccomplished single term in the United States Senate, the entirety of which was devoted to his presidential ambitions. He left no academic legacy in academia, authored no signature legislation as a legislator. And then there is the matter of his troubling associations: the white-hating, America-loathing preacher who for decades served as Obama's "spiritual mentor"; a real-life, actual terrorist who served as Obama's colleague and political sponsor. It is easy to imagine a future historian looking at it all and asking: how on Earth was such a man elected president? Not content to wait for history, the incomparable Norman Podhoretz addressed the question recently in the Wall Street Journal: To be sure, no white candidate who had close associations with an outspoken hater of America like Jeremiah Wright and an unrepentant terrorist like Bill Ayers, would have lasted a single day. But because Mr. Obama was black, and therefore entitled in the eyes of liberaldom to have hung out with protesters against various American injustices, even if they were a bit extreme, he was given a pass.

Given a pass, un-vetted in the press and media. The only thing affirmative action is doing in our society is lowering the standards. Standard: Something by which all is measured up to. We've lowered the standards for police, fire fighters, and practically all civil service jobs in the name of affirmative action......and gender. We've even lowered the standard for university acceptance. To me, those that continue to support affirmative action are the ones who are racist and sexist. THEY are the ones saying that certain people are not as smart, or as fit, or as able as the standard. Instead of stressing hard work and study, these folk would rather see mediocrity from our society. There was a question on a test regarding cups and saucers. It was a simple math problem asking how many cups and saucers were left after removing a certain amount of each. This question was deemed racist because..............Black people are poor and don't have saucers.

I was quite young when Kennedy and Johnson first initiated "affirmative action," but I remember hearing my father predict exactly that... an eventual lowering of standards. I'm sure my father wasn't the only one, but at 3 or 4 y/o, that's who I heard. One of the worst fallouts of affirmative action (besides reverse discrimination) is the disservice to qualified minority candidates. A qualified minority is often assumed to have gotten a job (or school admission) because of his/her race or gender. They are assumed to be not as qualified as their white, male counterparts and wind up continually trying to "prove" themselves. Your own wife probably understands exactly what I mean. Even though she "proven" herself at this point, I'm betting she still gets that attitude when encountering those that don't know her.

I have to clarify that my opinions are of affirmative action in today's society. I do believe that at one time it was needed as certain people's civil rights were being trampled on during the first 2/3's of our country's existence. However, affirmative action morphed into something else.
It was originally set up to give folks who were discriminated against, who had the same ability, a chance. Somehow that changed into lowering standards. I remember this was an issue when I was in high school. NYC was lowering the standards on the police sear gents test because a disproportionate amount of black and hispanic cops couldn't pass the test. This was not a social test,...this was a test about the job itself. So they made it possible for those who knew less about the job, the get the position. Makes no sense to me.

But, isn't that the case with most good intentions? Those with a little foresight saw the probable ramifications, especially when minimum percentages were imposed. They not only lowered the written testing standards, but the physical requirements and testing, as well (to get more females).

Essentially the same thing happened with housing when the feds forced banks to "lower their standards" and offer sub-prime loans....and look where that got us.

I pretty much put this in a post here a couple weeks ago.. It was very easy to look into this mans background and how anyone could have voted for him is beyond me.. His affirmative action upbringing, his friends and mentors[ Bill Ayers, Derek Bell,Jeremiah Wright, Saul Alinsky, etc].. IMHO he looks like Alfred E Neuman and is the anti-christ.. Affirmative action and welfare,, don't get me started..

Well; Killing a few Pirates, Usama Bin Laden and other prominent terrorists, it is indeed affirmative action... As affirmative as it can get. BTW, you do not l ead the Harvard Law Review or graduate from Harvard "Magna Cum Laude" without some brains, notwithstanding any bogus affirmative action claims. lead the Harvard Law Review or graduate from Harvard Magna Cum Laude
These could also be Urban Legend or even blush!t for all anybody knows. Nobody questioned it!!!!!!!!!! Kind of the point of this thread. They also said he was a constitutional professor. Turned out he didn't teach anybody anything. Haven't heard from one student in a class that he taught. And shouldn't a constitutional professor know that a law he's ramming down America's throat via intimidation and bribery is unconstitutional, as we will find out in a couple of months?

Not bragging, but I never completely lost sight of my goal or lowered my standards and it paid off in spades in the long run. (Well, I may have lowered my standards for a short while a few times. ) I will have to admit that I have been exceedingly lucky all of my life, but I do believe that determination and hard work are the factors that lead to success in most all endeavors...Jim

let me repost my prediction from last Nov. 13, 2011 My prediction . . . There is no strong Republican candidate. Newt is a smart and savvy politician. His 3 wives and philandering while pursuing Clinton dooms his chances. Cain will not get enough womens' votes and he doesn't have the political background, know how and experience. Perry continues to blunder through debates and will not recover from his immigration history. Bachman and Paul should have dropped out already. Paul is sincere with a few good ideas, but doesn't have a chance. Who even knows who Huntsman is? The candidate who will be the Republican nominee, Mitt Romney, is like a chameleon, changing colors with the political climate and will never survive the final race to the finish line. Many conservatives will vote for whoever opposes Obama, but . . . Obama WILL be the next President of the United States of America. Not a huge fan, but I will reference this post a year from now. Mark my words and place your bets.

Affirmative Action is a good example of what one of our founders (I can't remember which one or the exact quote) said. That laws should be written to prevent them being used in the worst possible way, not written assuming they will be used in the best possible way.
As was mentioned, affirmative action of some sort was probably needed at one time. But now, it's just a PC term for "state sponsored racism". Keeping qualified people out of collages because of their race is (if my memory serves) exactly what George Wallace did so long ago. It was state sponsored racism then and it's state sponsored racism now. And, there's no place for it in America.

QUOTE FROM PATRICK: "' bogus affirmative claims ' What ??!! He freely and proudly admits to this and wants to continue to expand a program that has clearly outlived its usefulness..." I respectfully ask that you please be specific as to where, when and to whom did President Obama proudly and freely made these statements. I am suggesting that you provide direct evidence from the President saying that. I am not asking for a quote about a quote that some quotecian quoted another quoter about. ==================================================== Britman;Yours are all good questions. I can't claim to know the answers. Too complex for a feeble mind. It seems that if America had been a dictatorship, all these calamities created by President Obama would not be upon us. Think about it. If President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney had managed a dictatorship form of government, they'd still be around. If so, America would have been indulging in the pleasures that only a Bush and a Dick (pun intended) could have delivered upon us. If they were still in power, the well-being and prosperity of all those on your list would be undeniable. It's a shame that our healthy economy and surpluses of 2008 have been squandered in just three years by President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden! Paxton from your posts one call tell that you aren't stupid. I'm disappointed you brought up the previous Fed Govt in your response. This blame game is so like, yesterday man. If PresBo is relected where will the blame fall on the first day of his second term? Still the previous Fed Govt?

Well; Killing a few Pirates, Usama Bin Laden and other prominent terrorists, it is indeed affirmative action... As affirmative as it can get. BTW, you do not l ead the Harvard Law Review or graduate from Harvard "Magna Cum Laude" without some brains, notwithstanding any bogus affirmative action claims. Throwing out "non-facts and Urban Legends" weakens the argument about whatever point you want to assert. It turns off some readers who ride Valkyries. Doing a little research before posting fallacies would foster respect for your intellectual honesty and for your point of view... just sayin.' "Every person on her/his volition must choose how much truth she/he can stand." Irvin D. Yalom (When Nietzsche Wept) you do know the difference between 'book learnin' and actual experience in the real world? one Obama has a ton of, the latter he has none. this is turning out to be his biggest weakness.
