Yes, that would work very well.

The only other consideration is that it's illegal in most, if not all, states to have amber rear running lights.  You'll need either red lenses or clear lenses with red bulbs.

I added Shiney Hiney teardrop LED brake/running lights to each hard bag a number of years ago for extra visibility. I disabled the blnker/flashing brake function as they were very confusing to drivers behind me.

Electrical Connection markets an LED turn signal conversion kit (for running and brake lights for right at $50.  That's likely less than buying a replacement set of housings and has the added benefit of additional brake lights.

well state inspection in NJ was every 2 years had everything but emissions testing and registration price was about $11 bucks and last year registration jumped to $65.00 and inspection and plate stickers are no longer required

Its what I did on mine.
As far as amber running lights.

Thats all I have to say on that one.
Both my bikes have amber lights.
But on my RoadStar I used Dynamics LEDS.
They are amber running, red turn.

I have not had a single problem here in Florida in 6 years.

Checking Fl laws, I didnt see anythjing about lighting other than a head light, a brake ligh and a tail light. Maybe color of lights is  a non issue in Fl. However, my post was meant for Tx riders in order to save them the possibility of a ticket...and the Tx DPS isnt shy about writting tickets for just about any BS "infraction"...believe me,  I know!

Here in Florida.
The only thing that Im aware of regarding lights is.
No flashing red or blue FRONT lights<turn signals>.
They are for law enforcement here only.
Rear turn or running can be red or amber, or all red.
The brake light itself must be red.
LEDS themselves are not DOT approved.
But most newer cars seem to have LED turn and brake rear lights??
Ive noticed on some cars the turn signals are amber on some all red??I I dont feel locals really care in any event.
They are just happy that you actually use them...........

We have no state inspection of any vehicles.

No rear amber running lights isn't necessarily a state law but it is a federal requirement.  Federal regulations require red running lights on the rear.

GEE! Federal law usurping state laws!! Imagine that! Contrary to popular belief, thats exactly what started the civil war. Being that the north won, the feds are still usurping states rights  >:(but I am getting side tracked...sorry....back to running lights...

I ran amber lens as running lights/ blinker for over 4 yrs in Texas and passed inspection every year without a hitch. Probably not legal but never was stopped or refused sticker because of them. I think amber lens show up better in bad weather or fog than the red ones. I now have red lens so big brother will be happy with me.

I think that law rates up there along with heavily tinted front windows. I see lots of cars with it but no one ever checks the translucence at the inspection. I agree...amber is easier to see in the dark than red

I think it's one of those things that, by itself, won't get you stopped unless the police need a reason to stop you. 

And, if they're already writing a ticket for something else, it might become an add-on.

Funny what a LEO looks for when ya get stopped. The last ticket I got was for speeding (3 months ago) for 8 mph over. It was 43 in a 35 MPH zone:tickedoff: My safety inspection was out of date by 5 months but he wanted to know what was in my saddle bags. He never said a word about the expired sticker as he happily wrote me a ticket for speeding...go figure
