Put, like, painter's tape or something that won't harm the paint all over it.
A whole bunch of things will try to scratch your center cover while you're wrestling
with it trying to get it off.

There's a tip-over sensor on the other side of the center cover. Don't put it back
on upside down, or else your bike won't start until you take the (*&($*&!! center
cover back off and put the tip-over sensor back on right.

You can do it without breaking the center cover, don't let frustration get the
better of you...

DAG has the manual online if you don't have one, I'm sure I read that before I
took mine off...

Wasn't too bad.  Two 10 mil bolts to the frame on each side.  Wiggle back.  Long philips screw driver to remove the tip over switch.  Then there is a metal spring clip on the key cylinder.  That just pops off.  Once that's all clear, ya just wiggle it out.  Hangs up on the fuel tank over flow/vent line.  Some bending required  2funny  Two beers and she's out of there.

Been there....done that.  I feel your pain......the pain you're about to go through.

http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,38488.msg361681.html#msg361681

Tips......

A loooooong screwdriver.

A very bright light (old eyes).

Remove the overflow bottle (it'll help you get in there from the back side).

Painter's tape on the shiny side (lot's of tape)......and pad the area with a few thick rags to prevent scratches from going through all of that painters tape.

There is a center (low.....at the bottom of the center cover) gromet that the center cover goes into.  The center cover is in there fairly tight.  You've got to pull that sucker up and away to get it out of there.

A couple adult beverages.   cooldude

You can also spray some windex on the rubber grommet at the bottom and it will help the center cover slip out alot easier.
