If you updated your front speakers, did you put the speaker enclosures back on?

I updated mine about 4 years ago and decided not to use those enclosures.  I covered the inside of the fairing and the back side of the speaker panels with DynaMat.  I thought it sounded pretty good.  A few days ago, I had the fairing off, I also came across those enclosures, put them on and tonight finally got out for a test ride to see how the radio sounded.  I had my wife with me and we both agreed that the radio sounded much better before.  Guess I will be taking the speaker enclosures off.

So, just wondering what others have done for better sound quality.

I wrapped DynaMat on the speaker enclosures when I upgraded to 3-way speakers several years ago.

My I/S's radio still needs a auxillary power amp to truely sound good. I'm still looking for one of those under-dash/glovebox minis that were so popular in the seventies.

My wife told me to get an old boom box and put the speakers on my cycle.  I had already bought some three way speakers for the trunk of my I/S and installed them.  Believe it or not, those boom box speakers I got a hold of were 3 ohm, clarion speakers and they would have fit perfectly!!  Don’t tell the wife I spent $20 instead….

What about water ( rain ,wash ,etc. ) ? I'd think boom box speakers would last about ( 1 ) ride  Undecided

My enclosures are on, never thought to try it without them. I was under the assumption speakers had to be enclosed.
