The alt came out with that wire hooked up but it dang sure wouldn't go back in with that wire hooked up. crazy2 I have been real patient but i'm about to get on my last nerve. tickedoff Sucks to be broke. Angry Course if i let the ste er dealer do it it would be really frikkin bad. Wink If i don't get right back with someone i do have to cook dinner. T I A and RIDE SAFE.

Did you read this article in Shoptalk ? Link below.

The very first paragraph discusses unhooking the cable before removing the alternator. To install after the alternator is in place you use the same socket extension and a lot of patience. The other wire you unhook as the alternator is being removed and installed as the alternator is part way into place. I loosened the center cover to slide one hand in to help with the wires. I'm sure it's easier the second time. I did it on a Tourer so yours might be different.

I think I did it from the clutch side. I got the alt in place and turned it enough to hook up the wire and spun it back. I was worried about getting it on since I had trouble getting it off. A long ext with a swivel works good.

I removed the overflow tank and used a long needle nose pliers to get the wire back to the alternator then used  heavy grease on my finger to hold the nut to get it back to the alternator, after all that I used the socket and extension to tighten it up

Do not know if i can go over the starter like ratdog did. larswlvs-I might look at that with a fresh eye tommorrow. I ain't ready to put er out of my misery-YET. 2funny And all the help and suggestions are greatly appreciated. cooldude I also realized that 67 year old fat arthritic fingers ain't near as nimble as they used to was. coolsmiley RIDE SAFE.

Take your time. My 64 year old fingers are thin and while trying to maneuver things I said to myself this isn't the place for big hands.
larswlvs used grease I had a screwdriver in one hand helping the hand that fit in the space. It's a tedious process.

O-K the good news is that the alt wire is actually hooked up to the correct terminal and she runs again and my digital H/F voltage meter is indicating 14.23 to 14.29 volts at 2000 r p m up to 3500 r p m. coolsmiley Can ya say FINALLY. 2funny I am also the proud owner of a new yuasa battery. For those that are interested in order to get the nut started on the terminal post i got my hand to come in thru the battery box area and after dropping it numerous times i FINALLY got that(insert yer favorite nasty expletive here) nut to thread on zackly like it's supposed to. coolsmiley I was able to tighten that nut by coming in under the starter with a 6 point 10mm socket and a universal swivel with my favorite 1/4 inch drive ratchet and two extensions. Now i have to figure out why my center cover do not want to center up and mount right. uglystupid2 Thanks again far all the help and suggestions. Wink And B T W-i'm gonna keep my fat gal/dragon. cooldude RIDE SAFE.

Congrats!  cooldude  After installing mine and removing and re installing the next day, my forearms were sore from all those fine motorisims of twisting and wiggling.
Did you get the center panel seated in the rubber deep down in the middle?  It will hang up on the tank vent line also.  But seating it down is the most important part.
Good luck.

That tank vent line looks like the culprit in this instance. Angry I WILL finish it up tommorrow. Arms wrists and fingers are mucho sore as is the back from laying on the concrete floor. Fixin to take me a nice hot shower grab a bite to eat and fire up my flatscreen. 2funny As always thanks for the suggestions.
