I have a 29k mile engine and most of the parts necessary to repair it. But before I go through the trouble of doing so, I'm wondering if there is a market for such an item. I have all the internal parts, still need to pick up the rear case cover and necessary gaskets. So at the moment I'm vacillating between fixing and then selling it....or selling it as is with the parts I already have included. If you want it "as is" I'd make someone a good deal but it obviously wouldn't include shipping....repaired or not. If you're in the SE, I could meet you part way for gas money which would save shipping costs.

Looking for opinions, my wife wants her garage space back.  Wink

There is a market. Just how much would you ask for that engine ?

Thanks, Saw

Charlie, it was in my "project bike" and had experienced the hydrolock. A good friend in the Tampa area had a good used engine with similar mileage and offered it at a reasonable price, so I decided to just swap it out. It was more a matter of time and effort at that point, I wanted to get the bike up and running ASAP. So, after he brought the engine over it was one evening removing this damaged one and a couple hours the next day reinstalling the replacement. One thing I realized very quickly; if I were as flexible at 74 as I was at 54, I could have done it in half the time.  Wink

I sold the bike last night for my asking price, all folding green. So now I have the old engine to either repair or sell as is. Quite frankly, I just as soon not mess with it. My friend Carman(the leather tool artist) is coming for a visit next month and I want a break before starting on his ride.

I'm sure you'll find a buyer as is... John, I can't help it... I vacillate every time I see your Valk... What a nice piece of work you have there.

What broke in the engine? Case, piston rod, head? Did it lock when the diaphram failed and the petcock was set to "on"?
I will bet that when the potential buyer saw your bike his mouth dropped open as he started reaching for his wallet. Getting another Valk, or something else?

Shooter, it's the usual internal starter gears that broke when the hydrolock occurs. Plus it broke a piece inside the rear cover. All very repairable. When I took the carbs apart in the damaged bike they were loaded with junk so took a good cleaning, new jets and float valves. Most of the float valves were in bad shape. It runs like a banshee now.

It was kinda amusing actually. When the young man that bought it walked into the garage he didn't even look at the sale bike, walked directly to my main ride and started circling. He later had his wife come look at it, and when she walked in did exactly the same thing. The hydrolocked engine is out of the bike I sold, there's nothing wrong the one in mine except it uses too much gas sometimes. Never been able to figure out why, doesn't do that all the time....just on the days I'm feeling on top of the world.  Grin
