Ive rebuilt a wrecked 99 Valk F for more or less the last 7 months as a future trike project. Its back to about 90% original apperence. Ive already asked a question in regards to my OEM petcock not having any vacuum line attached and working fine. Ive put over 1200 miles on the bike shaking it down to make sure Ive got it good to go.
This question is in regards to the gas tank vent line. This bikes been desmogged. Everything possible from the engine and carbs has been removed taken off and/or plugged. When I 1st started to tear into it it did indeed have some sort of vacuum line attached to the I believe the #6 manifold. Whatever that was for Ive forgotten. That line has long been gone as have all other vacuum lines to and around the engine.
My question is this: Is the rear vent line from the gas tank supposed to be in some manner connected to the manifold?? Or is it OK for it to just go straight to the open. As Ive already stated 1200K miles and the dang thing runs great.
So sorry for what might be a stupid question. But I cant find my answer in the Clymers, OEM manual, or in using the Search feature here.
Thanks Jay

the line from #6 went to the petcock, the vent line dropped straight down and had a T-fitting in it that was connected to nothing, it acted as a vacuum break, the line just ended below the bike for overflow. when are you ready to ride? do you own the photo shop in town?

Ok well maybe thats why I have no line going to the petcock. But the bike works fine. Some have suggested that maybe a previous person moded the petcock. It sure runs like a rapped ape with no line attached. I have a rebuild kit on the way.
Nope no photoshop. Im a locksmith, stores on 441 and Glades in Wunnerful west side of Boca.

Jay, welcome to the club and don't apologize for asking questions. That's how we learn and the only stupid question is the one not asked.

While I appreciate the information. Im beyound a pro at hydrolock issues. I went through 4 gallons of 10w-40 before the bike ever left my garage during the rebuild. 18 carbs later. I now have 6 that actually work fine.
A fork oil syringe is your friend for emptying gas from a cylinder head right down to the valves.
The petcock rebuild kit came today. If nothings on the toob. Its tonights future project. If not tommorows..........

Marty Im a self taught tinkerer ex auto road racer. Rebuilds arent new to me and I learned a long time ago. The question NOT asked is the stupid one. So its entirely possible, Ill come up with some winners here...........eventually. Jay
