So, after installing my electronic fuel cut-off, everything seems well.  Hooked it up to one of the Coil Wires...   cooldude

Decided to change the oil and filter...  so I put in about 1/4 can of Sea Foam into the engine and ran it for a little while, then proceeded to change the oil.  Put in some Valvoline T4 (3.9 Qts).

Then put 1/2 can of seafoam into the tank, and filled her up.

She ran great for the first 5 days.  Yesterday I rode her hard a little... and there were times when it seemed like she wanted to slow down...   Embarrassed

At lower RPMs (about 3K), she would start to growl and rumble.  The same growling the engine does when she's trying to suck up what's left to the gas (this is how I know to switch her over to reserve)....  But I know that I still had enough gas in the tank.   ???

I'm going to check my intakes to make sure they're all well seated and sealed, but wanted to know if there is anything else I should be looking at / for.

Thanks in advance.   Wink

Check the overflow coming off the back bottom end of the tank to be sure it's not pinched. Also make sure with the elec. shutoff that your fuel lines are all running downhill from the petcock, especially without any droop in the line whatsoever. I've seen that "downhill" issue cause more trouble with elec. shutoffs and/or a quick disconnect installation. When the tank is full it has enough weight to override a fuel line droop, but as it empties...that's when it starts to show up, especially under heavy throttle. Just a couple things to check first.

There have been some past reports about problems with that shut-off being connected to a coil for power and resulting in the same symptoms.

A better source should be located for the power.

What about the auxiliary power available under the right side cover? Comes on with the key, fused at 5A... Wiring diagram for the '99 standard shows the wire colors as green/red (hot) and green (ground).

The electronic shut-off I was using appeared to have a restricted fuel flow rate as compared to the OEM setup. Looking at the input side of the valve shows three small holes in the brass fitting that didn't come close to matching the size of the fuel line, so under heavy load and/or lower fuel levels the engine at times appeared to be running out of fuel.

My quick-disconnect had given me the same problem previously.

Once removed the problem(s) went away.

I experienced fuel starvation after installing my Dan Marc solenoid valve. It only happened when the engine was hot. Others suggested that it might be that the fuel line was a bit too long and it was kinking when hot. They were right. I cut off about 3/8" from the fuel line and all has been well. It's been several years now and never a problem.

Got the girl home last night and took a quick look under there.  OH MY... RUbber expands when hot (who knew?!?!?)   2funny  and it seems to have kinked a little.

I am going to take the tank off and reroute it to enhance the downward flow and see if that helps.

Thanks all for your input.  I'll let you all know if this resolves my issue.

My experience is the same as BonS, although I never had to cut down any hose length. Mine has been trouble free since the day it was installed, never any fuel starvation or similar problems. It's also installed with an inline external filter and a manual Pingle.

Thank you!!!  Fixed the kink, shortened the hose by about 3/4", removed the front hose and replaced it with a brass T right off the dan-marc.

The girls is back to her old self....
