Ok, lets see if I can explain this so someone understands my problem. crazy2

When I work with Google Maps, I can take my route, grab it and drag it to wherever I want it to, in order to correct my route or whatever.
Now I know this is possible using the Garmin maps also, because in the years I have had my Garmin, I actually did it once  Shocked  , but since then have not been able to do it again and for the life of me cannot figure out how to do it  tickedoff tickedoff If I could,  Smiley it would make my route planning a hell of a lot easier, so any one that works in Garmin maps could you PLEASE tell me how to do this before I throw the cursed computer out the window.  uglystupid2

Thanks, Yuri

Do the editing in the system that's easiest for you (For me that's Google Maps or Mickeysoft Streets and Trips), save the route, then send that route over to GPSBabel to have it converted to the Garmin native format:

http://www.gpsbabel.org/

Saves a lot of headaches, for me at least...

Hey Serk, I have a nuvi 50lm whick is a low rent unit I got when my 450 bike gps dumped. Not sure how to send existing S&T map to babel. When you have time could you hook a brother up? (Once again, 'puter-1, Me-buptkus!

Robin - GPS Babel runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, BSD, etc... Check the download page for the Mac version:

http://www.gpsbabel.org/download.html

The file formats are more limited, but there's even a web-based version of GPS Babel that runs entirely on a web server:

Michael,

Once you've installed and launched GPS Babale, just go to the Input area, click the drop down and select Microsoft Streets and Trips 2002-2007 (There's another kind of S&T too, might hafta play with it to get the right one), then click File Name and browse to the S&T file... (I had to choose pin/route reader to get it to understand my newer S&T files), then choose the appropriate Output options (Might have to play with the different Garmin MapSource types as well to get the right one), hit Apply at the bottom, sacrifice a chicken and sprinkle it's blood over your computer, and if the navigation deities have been please, you should be good! It not, try again with slightly different settings...

Sorry I can't say exactly what to do, but there are so many variables involved, the best I can do is guess and try to point ya' towards what areas to try...

Good luck!

Garmin.com has a tutorial on how to use the Mapsource software. It's a video.

In answer to your question - If you're using Mapsource - Create your rough route however - like with the route tool.  Left click on the selection tool to make it the current tool. Then left click on the route to highlight it.  Left click (and release) again on the route, at a midpoint that you want to direct elsewhere.  Move the resulting handle to a midpoint of the "detour" from the calculated route.  Mapsource will recalculate using that midpoint.  It will also use the routing preferences as set under "edit-preferences-routing".
