now i'm not saying that folks won't try to multi task and combine trips, and I'm not saying that folks won't maybe, just maybe slow down a bit.

but from what I see people have less trouble griping about gas prices then trying to slow down a bit.

it would be a good thing if folks would volutarily take the smith system of driving, that would really make a difference in our daily usage of gas  angel (it's conservatism after all  Evil )

Maybe it's my car, or the combination of engine and tranny Ford came out with a few years back, but I get better MPG's the faster I drive.

2006  Merc Montego  3.0 6 cyl. w/ CVTranny.

Normally at 55 to 65 mph I average 23 mpg.  At 75 mph I was getting 25+ mpg.

'Smith system' ?? You mean like Smith & Wesson ?? Just shoot the ole gas guzzler and go buy a new one??
I don't know what the prices are back home but all winter they have been $4.12- 4.18 down here at the bottom end of the country.. The price has more than doubled in the past year.. It doesn't really change the way I drive, I don't think it makes any difference and the driving just has to [almost] be done..

I try to drive my cycle as much as I can getting 35 mpg vs. my full sized tundra getting 17 mpg, but unless you all come up with a very heavy duty trailer to pull a fishing boat or ATV trailer with 2 ATV's on board, don't think I can get rid of my tundra.

I really wanted to buy a like new but used kymco 150cc scooter since the Honda used scooters are way overpriced, but the misses is against it me driving it flooring it all the time at 55 mph top speed being 275lbs. and get run over by all the idiots who really do drive 62-65 mph like they all do in a 55 mph zone.  I agree, way too many people driving 63-64 mph in a 55 mph zone and on the Interstate speed limit of 65 mph they go and get away with 75 mph.

I drive 62 mph in a 55 mph zone but do not pass cars if they are going say 58 mph.  I have been passed going 63 mph in a 55 mph zone and those people need to get pulled over and ticketed all day long - idiots.

We think that fuel prices are really not expensive in the DFW (Texas) area.  If you believe otherwise, then here is a simple test to proove our thesis.  Get out on any of the major thoroughfares on your bike or in your car/truck and drive at precisely the speed limit.  We predict that you will be fortunate if you are not run down and/or forced off the road by legions of lunatics exceeding the limit by at least 10mph in their SUV's and irate that you are in the way.  Fuel is not expensive.

We trudge on (impeding traffic).

glad I don't live in TN then I guess?  75 in a 55 is totally crazy, doesn't TN have cops?  Seems they would make a killing on tickets.  I guess riding a scooter on the hwy. would be crazy for sure around your area.

well the smith system is just going easier on the accelerator, you see'm flooring it for a red light dontcha?

like if they hurry up enough the light won't be red and then they won't be able to slam on the brakes  Evil

highway travel is what it is, set the cruise and go. just keep your eyes as far out in front as you can.
