Anyone familiar with this change in the New Mexico carry law?

New Mexico statue 29-19-12E requires that in order for a state to be recognized by NM, their provisions have to be "at least as stringent or substantially similar" to New Mexico.

Michigan issues by county and not by the state so, as I understand it, a MI CCW will no longer be honored in New Mexico.

New Mexico has reciprocity and recognizes Michigan, unless the law changed since January 2012.. "Travelers guide to the firearm laws of the fifty states" by J. Scott, esq

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

That sounds like a dig at their neighbors to the west where all you need for concealed carry is a gun.

MI no longer issues CCWs, they're CPLs; pretty sure it was just a name change but I never really looked into it.
BEWARE, even with the reciprocity agreements, you are subject to the other states laws and pistol-free zones. These can vary state to state; some significantly.
Also the 40 states that recognize the MI CPL do not all have Castle Doctrines or Stand Your Ground Laws. Do your research before you carry outside 'the mitten.'

A couple resources I like...
