Livin' the Valk, er, F6B life in Central Florida.

Silver Springs, Florida

« on: May 01, 2012, 08:14:34 PM »

Took a bike trip to Key West over the weekend. First long trip with the newly created '99 Tourer, first trip without my '97. KW is 433 miles from our house using our preferred route of US27 to 997 to US1. Left Ocala at 4:30 a.m. & we were eating breakfast in Clewiston by 8:15. Trip down was fairly uneventful until we got to Key Largo. Rain was threatening from Lake Okechobee on down but we were thankfully just behind it. Well anyways, after getting thoroughly soaked in Key Largo Kim wanted to stop by the 1935 Labor Day hurricane memorial to see if the names of her relatives that died in the storm were on the permanent plaque yet. As of 3 years ago they were not.

The plaques were completed this time.

Foyle, Charles & Sophie were their names.

Once we paid proper respects we moved on.
After a great relatively low speed {& rain free} ride through the Keys we arrived at our B&B on Eaton Street in the historic seaport district.

Covered up our babies after this shot since the rest of the time we dodged rain while hanging out on Duval Street. Didn't want to ruin our Ultimate Seats!! Shocked
Anyhow, we did take the covers off long enough to ride them down to the Southernmost Point monument for the obliglitory pics.  Grin

That's not an added "frosting" to the pic, it's just the humidity.  Cool
My turn.

Got a much later start for the return ride home but our timing was just right as we missed all the rain save a couple of very small drizzles on Boca Chica & again west of Miami. Only hit love bugs around Avon Park & not very many.  cooldude
The newly minted '99 Tourer ran flawlessly as did Kim's Valk. Much hotter ride home with the later starting time! This was our third Keys trip on the bikes & the first staying on KW. We will go again for sure but next time we'll stay at a B&B off the main drag. Eaton St. was only 5 blocks off Duval and was a bit noisy. As tired as we were we hardly noticed!  Smiley

Thanks for sharing that ride. It's on a short list of mine, if the mrs. doesn't give in soon it will be a solo trip.
