We should Edit: text removed ourselves!
Bush claimed victory in Iraq, the bad guys ramped up and proved him wrong.
Obama claims victory against the Taliban in Afganistan, AN HOUR LATER, 7 Afgans are dead (including children) and the Taliban proudly claims responsibility.
Dear Mr./Mrs. President of the United States of America, Please shut the phuk up, do the job, stop making our tactics and intelligence public, send in enough military force to get the job done once and for all, and actually win a war, before running your mouths. Thank you, John/Jane Q. Public

Gary, I'm sure you're bright enough not to let the media lead you around by the nose.
The media made a big deal of the "Mission Accomplished" banner on the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln at it's return to port after the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The banner correctly indicated that the members of the force, specifically the Abraham Lincoln and its group were returning after succeeding in the mission that had sent them to the Persian Gulf. They did. Neither the banner nor the president's remarks indicated that all that needed to be done in Iraq had been completed. Even in his remarks, the president specified an end to "major combat" but the reporters insisted on interpreting that to mean he was saying there would be no continuing resistance.
I honestly haven't listened to President Obama's comments on Afghanistan, but I'm pretty sure he didn't say that every bad guy in the country is dead.
That's my take on it.
Incidentally, I'm sure you'll be insulted by my edit of your post, but there are some things we don't say even in jest, especially when saying those things in a public forum may make us and the forum a target.

I'm cool with the edit. I understand, this time. But, nope, I don't let the media, especially the media that has been proven to lie to us, lead me. Neither President should have stated ANYTHING in my opinion until we were finished. We're hearing a lot of "Spiking the Ball". And this is exactly what they did. So, we won a battle, but the war is still on. By claiming these victories (and you will see what I mean when you do hear this one's speach on the anniversary of killing their leader no less), it infuriates your opponent, and we're dealing with an opponent who holds no value on human life. And, especially, to travel to Afganistan and say we've accomplished this, that, and the other thing, and this is how we will specifically move forward in the future, and here is our timeline, IMHO, was not very bright. And the follow-up to his speach by the Taliban, who he stated we have pretty much taken of, demonstrated this.

No matter what they all say, he is winning in November. Again. Probably so, we have to decide the lesser of 2 evils, him or NittWitt Mitt - tough choice. I totally dislike both of them and say neither!

I totally dislike both of them and say neither! This election is probably the only election that should NOT be about the lesser of two evils, but about how we want this country to move in OUR future. Do we want to be a state where more folks rely on the gov't year after year? Where half the country is responsible for the other half? Where prosperity and success is shuned? We know that this is Obama's vision. He has made no bones about it. He doesn't try to hide from any of it. If this is your vision of this country, then go ahead, vote for him and enjoy the results of a country that is no better off than any of the failing countries we will be modeled after. And maybe, just maybe, Mrs. Obama will continue to be proud of her country.

Sometimes appearance is as important as intent. It was a bad idea to do that in front of that banner whether the intent was to convey the idea that the overall mission was completed or not. And in fact, it was not an end to "major combat operations" in any way, shape or form. Ask anyone who fought in the second battle of Fallujah if you don't believe me. So he was wrong in either case. To his own credit Bush himself has admitted that it was a mistake. This was not a case of the media leading people around by the nose. It was a dumb move and the administration deserved all of the criticism they got for it.

+1 Read George Bush's book He admits his bonehead moves and the moves others prompted him to make and took lumps for/ (this way I dont end the sentence with a preposition and get a Willow edit it was an interesting read. If he could be President and not create armageddon then maybe we can survive Obama, I just hope it is not 5 years or if he comes up with a new birth certificate 13 more years Is SE still around? Think he was madame X or some such a while back
