When I saw this originally, I cried along with her!

I recently had a similar experience, but nearly as overwhelming.  Been wearing corrective lenses since the age of 3, so I have never really known what it was like to see without wearing glasses, or sticking a lens in my eye (since age 15).  Without the correction, I was unable to function.  Couldn't drive, cook, or do anything that required sight.  Always had to carry spare lenses in case I lost one so that I'd be able to ride/drive home.  Then I developed a cataract.  The doc placed an intra-ocular lens in the eye and performed the lasik procedure at the same time.  For two months now, my left eye is correction free and I can't wait to do the right eye.

This woman's response was wonderful.  Imagine not being able to hear your children's voices, and then all of a sudden you can.

I love medicine.  It is THE most noble profession in the world.  From Fudgie, who will come get you when you call, to the nurses who will take care of you and comfort you, to the techs who help make life a little easier when you need it be, to Pharmboy who dispenses medication and advice, to the docs who orchestrate your care, all the way to the drug and device companies.   cooldude cooldude cooldude

G-Man, I thank you for mentioning my profession.  In the last 42 years I have witnessed the greatest advancements in the human health sciences since the beginning of recorded time.  I feel proud and oh so humble to have been such minute part of my profession.  However, I feel that we have only scratched the surface in the fields of medicines and medical technology.  With the coming of molecular medical science and digital technology, one can only guess at what the future holds in store for the relief of human suffering...Jim  Smiley

Thanks for sharing. It's good to know that there are still good folks out there.
