I've searched this forum but haven't really been able to find anyone or photos of an HID instaledl on a Valkyrie which is not a Interstate. My question to anyone who has installed one on a non interstate Valkyrie is where did you mount the Ballast and Relay and did you route the wiring through the back of the head light bucket. Any pictures would be greatly appreciated.  cooldude

I just installed mine on a non i-s. I could not fit it all into the headlight so I extended some wires
to under the seat. Most of the small wires. Sorry I don't remember exat, I used solder and heat
tubing. It is still a b&^%$. Just keep trying. There is a lot of room up high and in the back. Hope this helps. Good luck you will love it.

I got mine on e-bay for $31.00 after a friend of mine put a set on his st1300. Came from china
in 2 weeks. Like I said I had to lengthen some of small wires to make up to the headlight. Just make sure it's a bi-xenon. I use the 4300 as it is the most white. So far so good.

I guess there's one thing I failed to mention in my question I put out. I have for a couple  of years had a HID light installed in my Valkyrie. Unlike BillyBoy  I was able to fit the ballast, relay and all cables within my head light bucket. However in the last 12-15 months I've gone through 2 lights now with the most recent one just about a week ago. So my concern is that maybe there's too much heat being generated in the bucket. This is why I was asking if anyone else has installed a HID on their non-interstate Valkyrie before. I've order two new HID lights and I think this time I just might try and mount the ballast and relay under the front of the Gas Tank. I'm hoping all of the wiring is long enough as I don't want to extend it. Preferably I would love to purchase that 7" LED Headlight being sold by Custom Dynamics or Kuryakn but the cost .... Ouch.

Has anyone installed the LED headlight on their Valk and if so what are your thoughts about it?

Thanks

HId lights do not like to be cycled too much. Push the start then turn on the key till it starts let go
All is good. Head light will not come on as long as the the start button is pushed in. Hope this helps
as far as your HID failure go. Or put in an on off switch. Just remember to turn it on.

Well over the last couple of years I've been running a HID headlight in my bucket. Just as of today I'm now on my 3rd light. I took the advice from billyboy above and started starting my bike with the start button pushed in 1st and then turning the ignition on to start the bike. This makes sure that the headlight power is always on during  start-up of the bike unlike turning the ignition switch to the on position first which turns the headlight on and then pushing the start switch which then cuts power to the headlight until you  release the start button after the bike fires up.

So my question is to anyone who's installed a HID headlight in their Valkyrie. Have you also had a relatively short lifespan of your HID light? I will mention that my ballast is also inside of my headlight bucket.

Anyone's comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated so that I could resolve this problem if there is one. tickedoff tickedoff

Thanks

I run a pair of 100 W HID lights, these ballasts are rather large but there are some very small units out there.
Have my ballasts mounted between the petcock and the rear of the carb bank. Just had to extend the wiring. You can get extension cables already made up but a little pricy. Just need cable with good insulation as these run around 90 Volts.
A single unit may mount under the lower triple tree between the forks.

Black duck,

I appreciate your suggestion however I guess I need to clarify my issue again. I'm on my third hid light in approx. 2 years which to me is a bit excessive. I had a Suzuki M109R which had a hid in it for about 4 years with no issue as all. The ballast was also mounted in the headlight bucket but that bucket was much larger in size compared with the Valkyrie. So are you saying the my lights are burning out quickly due to the ballast being mounted within the bucket with the light?

On the subject of HID's, for those that have them fitted how do you correct the light beam spread?
If I remember correctly, HID's are supposed to be fitted to projector lamp housings and not reflector lamp housings, which is what our OEM headlight buckets have.

Local boy racers here (and other petrol heads) have retro-fitted HID's to thier cars and do nothing but blind other road users because the beam spread is all over the place.

I've been thinking of upgrading my bikes headlights to HID's myself, but the beam spread issue has so far stopped me.

Doubt the fact that the unit is inside the bucket is causing the bulbs to blow, would expect the ballast to quit if too hot.
Suspect it is just the bulbs, too many now making these and quality maybe suspect.
When you check the price of Hella etc against the Chinese stuff there is a lot off difference.
Had to modify a couple of H1 bases that did not line up correctly to my lamp housings, quality control with these particular ones is not too flash.
Cheers Steve
