Beautiful east Tennessee ( GOD'S Country )

« on: May 04, 2012, 06:02:54 PM »

First off check out this old Smith & Wesson "Lemon Squeezer" top-break revolver. My friend Jerry wants to trade a Range Rover for one of my Dodge 4X4 and this will be in the deal. He thinks its late 40's early 50's with real pearl-handle's.I'm still on the fence with the trade just because well its a Range Rover and parts are sky-high when needed  Undecided

Hooked up with my ridin' bud Gordon ( Lucky13 ) and we took alittle ride around beautiful Norris Lake.

I've told this story before but my Grand-father worked here during construction and Gordon's Grand-father was killed during construction when he fell in a rock crusher. This was one of the first " New Deal " construction projects and the start of my employer 70 plus years ago.Shot of Norris Lake.

Down stream is the Clinch River known for its huge brown trout.

" The Money Shot " taken at the over-look on Norris Lake.

Rover parts would scare me too Joe. Cool looking gun though. Maybe you can just work a deal for it.

Truth is I was all over it today even look under it , its pretty nice but so is my ol'Dodge. Two moonroof front and rear decent tires ( my Dodge has very little miles on the tires ) . Its blue <---Not real crazy 'bout that and the hood is starting to fade...I doubt I'll trade however its still possible.

I own ( 3 ) Dodge 4X4's bought one new in 1988 still have it and never had any problems with it whatsoever. I keep my rides in pretty good shape as far a maintence I can only dream that my kids would do the same with the cars they drive.

Dang Joe, your ride reports just keep getting better and better. Now you've got great ride pics and "gun porn".  cooldude

I've always been amazed top break wheelguns aren't more popular today. Seems like a very smart design.

Joe I would seriously consider not doing the trade, the Rover although nice can be a maintenance problem. Once they are all gone through they are pretty good but up untill then you might want to pull your hair out. What year what model?

That shot below the dam is where the Hoot had their "Best Dam Fish Fry". I worked that event in '08: the last year for the Hoot.

Good you will more than likly not do it but here are a few things to look for. The suspension in most is air suspension the question is not if you will have problems with it but when. They make a spring kit for them make sure it has it rather than the air suspension. Engine temp they do run hot but make sure you don't have head gasket problems or leaky exhaust manifolds. Open the coolant when hot and then put the cap back on if no pressure builds within a few minutes it more than likely is ok. Power steering leaks and just leaks in general, make sure the axles work both front and rear. Few things to look for just in case. They also are really not going for much money either.

I would scratch the trade deal for the RR.  Everything that I read about them and those I know who own them say RRs are money pits with many mechanical issues.  I have a 2005 Dodge Cummins that has been outstanding for me.  I am not usually a Dodge guy but this one has been great.

Great photos and an interesting pistol.

Thanks for the heads up new one's go for $ 90,000 plus  Shocked  I looked around and the 2000 model is in the $5,500 to $8,000 range depending on condition....That's a hellofa lot more than I got in the Dodge I bought last summer but as of now I'm passing on the deal just because everything is sky-high on the Range Rover's.

Joe,

Great report. Thanks as always. You do have a special "knack" for that money shot! cooldude

As for the trade, there will not be any RR's (no, don't mean Rolls Royce - but come to think of it, not one of those either) in my garage. Roll Eyes

Just a couple more bits of info on the Range Rover. Between 2000 and 2012 Rovers have had 4 owners and this is reflected in the power train and the electronics. The order is Rover sold to BMW Sold To Jag/Ford sold to TaTA motors. Its kind of funny opening the hood and seeing different engines in there. Each mfg approach to design is reflected in the workings of the Rover while the body went through not as drastic changes. This was to keep a recognizable product that still had appeal to customers. They do ride well but I just replaced a shock on one and its a spring/shock its 1200.00 for the part alone. So that effectively means that if you had to replace all the springs and shocks it would be around 5000.00 if nothing else went, like the air pump for the suspension or the computer. Just a little more info on a brand that most don't know to much about.
