Not someone I know... but about 2 miles away.  I live in a pretty nice area and it shoked the hell out of a lot of us.  It could happen anywhere cuz the dickweeds that do it don't care where you are.  If it ever happened in my house... I just hope I can get to the guns in time...I'd show them how lead invades a body.
Sorry about your dad.  Glad he came out of it.

Nothing funny about it, brother. I only hope the cops get the prick before you do. Your dad'll need you around to help him get past this. Not sure what I might do. Good luck.
**EDIT** - sorry. Didn't read the '3 years ago' part.

In our view, a home invasion is or would be a most traumatic event, as we see our home as our last bastion of safety.  Have not heard of any home invasions in our immediate area.  We understand they are relatively rare in the US, compared to some countries.  Gun rights people put forth that this is due to the relatively high percentage of US citizens that maintain firearms in their homes.  Others say that Texas' rather interesting "castle laws" that my tend to dissuade such (this assumes, of course, that the miscreants know or care about any laws, which is a bit of a stretch).

For our part, we feel we are to some degree prepared for such a surprise attack with some stragetically placed fireams at the ready.  It is our intent to repel the invader.  We hope and pray that the necessity will never come.

We trudge on.

Happened to my aunt. The perp only left because he thought she was dead. She is in a nursing home today due to complications from it. If the economy gets worse I wonder if this will get more and more common. They see the elderly and weak as prey.

My parents had their front door kicked in while they were out of town. The house was pretty much trashed and several items were stolen. Mom felt it was a real invasion of their privacy.

my parents had a gas station back in the late 80's.  i worked from 6am to 10pm every single day so i would sleep on a cott in the back room of this gas station.  one night i heard some noise coming from the stock room, i got my 22 Ruger Mark II out, stood in the door way of the stock room in my underware and drew a beed on some teen age kidd coming in the back window.  he told me he was only coming in for a coke and not to shoot (yeah right.....) i told him to get down, and he jumped out of the window.  they later caught two kids that had ransacked several homes and businesses.  one of the places they destroyed had a 1936 cadillac that a guy was restoring.  one of a kind car and these punks smashed it up.  idiots.  pure stupid.

Yep, in '77 and '81.. No one was home at either time.. The first they made a mess of the house, stole a lot of strange stuff along with 29 guns.. The second time I was going in the kitchen door while they ran out the front door and I couldn't catch them, they got JoAnn's Walther PPKS..

No, I've never had a home invasion.

However, If someone breaks into this elderly gentleman's apartment while I'm home, I will do my best to permanently remove the threat with the appropriate response on hand.

Unfortunately they're fairly common in PHX and AZ. Most of them are drug dealing and immigrant smuggling related. The coyotes smuggling humans are also in the business of ransoming some of their victims.

Nothing while we were home but I am no stranger to being on the receiving end of crime

we got hit while we were in florida just last week/ Small safe taken ripped out from the wall and shelf Heck you have enough time you can take anything I suppose.  We have a list of bond #s and stock #s so all that will be replaced. Some cash  No firearms taken.    We did not know till Bonnie went to put something in the safe but we noticed when we came home my daughter had not taken even one of the newspapers for the whole week from the driveway  Talk about your invitation for trouble.  She knows better now   Daughter did not even know about the safe or where it was either

my Bronx office has been hit multiple times over the past 30 years most recently in the past few  window bars pulled off window probably with chain hooked to pickup truck  Most likely that cant happen that way now the bars are set into the wall and there is a tall fence about twenty feet from the window  Had break in through a wall in interior stairway. That is now no longer possible put steel lathe in the walls : )   and metal roll down gate inside .

the random destruction begs for response in kind if the perp is caught

we are getting cameras and an alarm system now   so I can view the house from anywhere and stuff will be recorded on hard drives       There is something to be said for nanny cams also

it will only get worse in the future

My home was broken into 19 yrs ago.  Everything of value was taken including a half dozen guns, TVs and the worst thing taken was some irreplacable Beechcraft airplane tools that were long out of production.   They were worth a fortune to me and couldn't be of any value to anyone other than an aircraft owner or mechanic.  I'm still sick at the thought that my tools likely wound up in a ditch somewhere because they couldn't be hocked.

The thieves had apparently just left, because although the back door was open.  It was still warm inside.  I didn't touch the door, I left it just like it was, hoping the cops would try to lift some prints that were all over the adjacent glass to the one removed when they got in.  The cops did nothing but fill out a report and I lost all my stuff.

About 5 yrs ago, an aquantance told me who did it.  It was a neighbor from diagonally across the street.  The dude had a bad drug problem.  I learned of his identity a few days after he died of an overdose.

Yes, and maybe you should work a little harder to secure your guns. You've gotta figure that the owner you stole those guns from in the first place is gonna replace some of them.

Back to the topic

My Dad is a gun fanatic has a number of guns, lives by his self. At the time of invasion he keeps a 9mm in the side pocket of recliner a 45 on the arm of couch coverd with a news paper a winchester 30 30 in the kitchen, a 44 magnum in the bathroom, a ((50cal darenger}} under his pillow, a sawed off 12gage
in the hall and a 45 in each of the other 2 bedrooms and other guns in garage. He wanted all these guns to be available to him anywhere in the house incase he was overpowerd and confined in any location. His door bell rings he has a 50cal nine shot nine" barrell that he carried to the door as soon as perps saw him look in peep hole  3 Black Bastards  kicked the door in (2 dead bolts) knocking my Dad and gun  across the room on the floor they ran over to him beat the hell out of him came very close to killing him. They took his wallet and 3 guns. For all his preperation none of those guns did him any good. He replaced the guns he still carries a gun to the door but now he has bars around his front porch with a door bell,  bars on all windows. Even with all your guns  and all your prep it can all colapse in a fraction of a second. He also(( had)) ADT security. They never were caught. When this happens to your parents it shatters your life to. Have tried to get him move in with us or build him a house on our property, he wont hear of it. Cry

I waited to explain because I knew a lot of you would mention how your guns would protect you but sometimes they don't.

agree, guns in house may think you are safe, but sometimes you cannot get to them fast enough or the invaders can overpower you quicker than you think and use your own gun against you.  All my guns are locked up next to my bed in a safe and within 30 seconds can lock and load if need be if I hear someone come in a window or door.  Or, I have a few aluminum baseball bats nearby that if they don't have a gun, they don't have a chance unless they can outrun me.
I worry about my mom living alone past 3 years since dad died and remind her to keep locking her door but with no deadbolt and hollow front door, someone could easily break it down.  I keep telling her we should get a more secure solid door with deadbolt, but she doesn't want to spend the money.  If someone ever broke into her home and I found the little _astard,  I wouldn't be thinking of going to the cops and taking the matter into my own hands mono on mono.  Wouldn't bother with the police since a bullet is cheaper than wasting taxpayer money on criminal court.  I always have said an eye for an eye when it comes to capital punishment.  I never have started a fight, but darn near always finished them.

No but has happened in town. I carry 100% of the time at home and other places. Kit does 95% of the time at home. 100% outside of the home. Shot gun by the head board. She is good about carring hers around the house room to room with her but not when she goes out to smoke. She is getting better. Our Border is a good alert dog esp when I'm gone. He barks, she gets her gun and follows him.
