Beautiful east Tennessee ( GOD'S Country )

« on: May 05, 2012, 08:43:13 AM »

Just returned from Cycle Gear in Knoxville,Tennessee . Just went in to look around and come out with some new rain gear.I've bought ( 3 ) rainsuits in the last two years spending around $160.00 on the three sets  ???  Hoping I can keep these off the HOT parts and they last me awhile.

The Classic Road Toad Action Suit is built for the demands of the highway. Lightweight, 100% waterproof, and breathable, non-woven polypropylene ensures comfort, dryness and ease of movement, while reinforced seams and expandability features provide durability and a perfect fit. Frogg Eyzz Reflective Technology enhances visibility and safety at night and in inclement weather. The ultra-lightweight design also allows the suit to be compressed and stored in the free stuff sack which fits easily into saddle bags. Guaranteed to stay dry at highway speed!

I have that exact rain suit. Works well, except that with my long legs, when seated on the Valk the bottoms of the pants legs ride up about 10" exposing jeans underneath.   tickedoff

Need to see if I can get a different size of pants that may have a longer inseam.

Mine should be good on that as they are alittle big on me I got XL and L would have worked. We ride year around and got them alittle big so winter clothes will work with them as well....Thanks for the comment  cooldude

I have those as well, picked them up last year in Az at Cabella's.  Yesterday was the first real test of them in heavy rain, heavy snowfall and hail. Not a drop, I do have some Moto booties to put over the boots, which keeps the water from running off the pants and onto my shoes. Anyway I think you'll like em.

I have the same rain suit and it works great.  I end up tucking the pant legs into my rain proof boots to stop it from allowing water up the leg.  I found them a little short too but I still like them better than the other brands I've tried.

I also have that same suit, and it has suited me well (no pun intended  Wink) for several uses.

The only problems I have had are a rip in the carrying bag and I got too close to the exhaust once with the leg while I was putting the suit on.  They make a patch kit (supposed to put it on before it gets melted) to repair it, and it includes some contact cement - the patch is made of fiberglass I think to keep from melting problem areas.

They don't melt on the exhaust? They are nylon aren't they?

Mine have not.  they are more resistant to heat than the Frogg Toggs.

HD dealer here has a great looking set of rain gators. Not sure the brand. Thats the ones I'm gonna get. Search rain gators on ebay, there is alot there.

Right now I use 2 buckle slip on boots (they slip over your boots) from the local farm store.

Sterns is what I'm replacing these with. The Sterns are alright in cool to cold weather but in the southern heat its like wrappin' up in a hot plastic bag.

Most of your outdoor stores have rain gaters, that is where I got both of my sets.  I like the fact they keep my pants off the pipes and the rain out of my boots.  If the roads are a little damp I will just use the gaters to keep my pant legs dry.

I've had Frogg Toggs for years.  Replaced my old FT with a new Horny Toads rain suit from Frogg Toggs.  More like a HD rain suit, but still breathable.   cooldude

I bought a similar or maybe the same Frogg Togg set a few years ago. It's by far the best rainsuit I've ever owned. Even on a hot day it's not unbearable and I don't find myself desperately looking for a place to pull over and get out of the "sauna suit" as soon as the rain lets up.

They do melt bad though. I glued the heat patches on both legs and it helps but they still leave a spot on my pipes sometimes.

Bright Yellow for me, on sale at Bass Pro shops when I got them. I look like a fat banana but I figure if it is raining I want people to see me. At work they gave us Hazmat suits, same stuff, with booties but they are coveralls. Keep a set handy for riding in case  I run in to hazards while riding (or have a passenger). Used to wear them at Meth Labs when I was with the drug task force, I think they are cheaper than the toggs too but it has been years since I had to buy them, a task for others to do now, retirement rocks!

My HD bud wears the yellow suits. His has alot of duct tape on them to. He calls himself the Gordon's fisherman when he wears it.

Only thing I don't like about the Frogg Toggs is the billowing of the jacket. I am no skinny guy at 6'3" and 240lb, but I don't like how loose the xl jacket fits.

Hey Joe...  Here is a link to a DIY 'Heat Shield' for the inner parts of the legs  cooldude

Uses an ironing board cover, and works quite well.  I've had my 'Toggs for 5 or 6 years, and have not melted them yet  Wink

Thanks for the link  cooldude   I'd love for these to last 5 or 6 years what would be really cool is if I never had to take them out of the saddlebag.

Joe,
Hope you have better luck than my wife had with the set I bought for her. On our trip up to Canada a few years ago, every time it rained she would get soaked at every seam. I called Frogg Toggs and they weren't willing to help at all.
All in all,  they work OK unless you get in a real gully washer!!
Good luck!

my frogg toggs are at least 7 years old I had em when I went to colorado in 05

I only seem to wear the bibb pants and since my boots are 11" high and waterproof I dont really have a problem with the pants billowing up unless I ride using the highway pegs.  Duct tape is good for wrapping where your leg hits the valve covers if you are tall like me but I havent had a rip yet

Maybe in all these years I have used the top part a dozen times. After a full day of riding and wearing a mesh jacket I dont mind a little water, its those frog stranglers that will really get ya

They work better when you put them on before the downpour starts at 70mph in the middle of nowheres
