how old is the idea of 'caseless ammo' ?

I would've gotten it wrong, about 125 years ago.

was watching 'sons of guns'  a customer had a gun that looked like a henry and supposedly was the model for the henry rifle. that fired caseless ammo, it belonged to a cowboy speed shooter. the name of it escapes me but it was cool looking.
