« on: May 05, 2012, 07:28:18 PM »

I started a new chemo treatment against my better judgement last Thursday.  My situation is pretty much hopeless so at this point I kinda feel more like a lab rat than a cancer patient.

Wasn't feeling real well Friday so I decided to leave work at lunch time.  As I was driving home I blacked out behind the wheel and slammed into the curb destroying my rear tire.  I drove it flat to a Goodyear dealer who was good enough to install a new one for the ridiculously low price of 156.00.  I'm just really glad that no one else was involved and that no one, including myself, was hurt.

I've pretty much decided to end any further treatment and let things take their course.

And the hits just keep on coming! Shocked

Paul, you do what you feel is right for you.  No one knows all you've been through but you.  You have been fighting for a long time and I know you still have some fight in you, but if that's not the right thing for YOU, we understand.  We're all here standing with you.  Got you on our minds, in our hearts and in our prayers.  We love ya, bro!

I've retyped this several times... not quite knowing how not to sound callous.

Sometimes it comes down the quality of your remaining days.  I know that you know the choice very well... keep fighting and be miserable or call uncle and enjoy what time you have.

It's a suck-ass choice to have to make; and I'm so sorry you have to make it.

Make the choice that's right for you, not for others... your friends and loved ones will support your decision.

When Wimp and I came down to your house and hung out all weekend a few months ago we had a talk....I still say break out the credit cards go for a ride a long ride.....Live like a rock star you said when you are riding is when life is best ....Ride somewhere you've never been and stay in the best motels eat the best food . You told me you know this crap is going to take you out....Go down with a smile and I don't blame you for not pumping anymore of that chemo poison through your arteries.I talked with Wimp just yesterday and he wants to make another run down to your place in a couple weeks. I'm proud to know you Paul and hope when you go out you go with your boots on and not laying in a bed  cooldude

Hey Paul,

Joe's right, ya know... usually is. Wanna hook-up and take that long ride? We could go anywhere in North America... Alaska, Canada, the western states... any or all of that for as long as you wanted to be out... Might even be a couple of others who might wanna go along on such a venture... Think it over...

Sure hard to hear about the cancer, best of wishes to you and those around you.

But . . . Do yourself and those around you a big favor.   If you are passing out, please don't be driving, take a ride as a passenger with one of your good friends.  Sure would hate to have you seriously injure someone or yourself by driving and "blacking out".  Get  your doc's recommendation on this.  Sad

Sorry to hear this. IMHO you are making the right choice.

Like F6 gal said, its the quality of life, not the quanity of it.

Also agree with Joe. But you may also want your family with you.

I got the impression that this was Paul's first black out and was unexpected.
I'm sure he would not have gotten behind the wheel if he thought he was going to black out.

Yes f6gal, I know you are right and  I'm directing only good wishes to you, Thumper, not any sort of admonishment.  Still good to discuss the event with your doc.  Best to you Paul.
