So..was tooling around the Cumberland Plateau yesterday, ( ended up doing 382 miles, left at 11 and got home at 11 ) and was behind some traffic for the first time ALL DAY. Just outside of Clarkrange on hwy 62 headed for monterey. Now, when I am behind cages on 2 lane roads, I usually leave LOTS of distance so I can see around them before I attempt to pass them. I had kind of caught up to this group from behind so was a little too close to see around. Sometimes I ride left of center sometimes right, depends on the shoulder sitation, weather, gut feeling, whatever. This time I'm left of center and thinking about blowing around these 2 yahoos, and for no conscious reason.....I grab a little brake and dart right..About 3 nanoseconds later, a 6' piece of 4x4 and a 4' piece of 2x4 pass to the left of me. Did I mention I was a little too close? I couldn't see ahead of me, had no warning. Just a FEELING. Can't tell you how many times this has happened to me. I have held off from passing vehicles before only to discover an oncoming car in my lane in a corner that would have met me at the same time IF i had passed the car. I have avoided debris at highway speeds in Chicago at 4am and pitch black with little gut feeling manuevers TWICE. Missed a hay bale on I-75 coming back from Bike Week this year because I changed lanes when there was no traffic around me! I keep a bracelet my mom gave me before she died strapped to my handlebars. I like to think someone is watching out for me. Ride Safe All!

I have had that feeling several times. Once with a complete semi tire in the middle of my lane.

I would gladly stop to remove the debris but there is never a safe moment to do so.

When I had a Ducati 250 Scrambler in '69, I was stopped at a light around midnight. Light rain and poor visiblity. My light turned green and as I let the clutch out, my little voice said pull it back in and look. About 3 seconds after the light turned green for me, a car sped through his red light from my left. I would have been T boned for sure. I look every time from that night on till today.

People think I'm nuts sometimes because I believe in "Guardian Angels"  angel . I know for a fact my Dad is always giving me a heads up in the form of a gut reaction or inexplicable action I take to avoid a problem. I believe it and always will.
