Picked up a 600 watt Motorcycle Tunes music system for JoJo's trike a few months ago. Been working on getting it installed over a few days recently.

The first go round of mounting the speakers where they suggest on the handlebars using P-clamps just didn't do it for me. Too "in your face" for my tastes.

I messed around a bit with how to mount them down near the triple tree area without hitting the tank at full lock. Here's what I came up with:

Took the upper windshield brackets off and took them to a fabricator friend of mine, who welded a 1 3/4 inch plate to the top of them and drilled out and welded a stud for upper mounting of the windshield instead of the bolt.

Drilled the plate for the speaker mounting stud (3/8") and mounted the speaker:

Got them angled correctly and tightened down:

Mounted the windshield back up and the clearance ended up great:

The system sounds great, clears the tank with many inches to spare, and the windshield directs the sound towards the rider. All and all worth the hassle of custom fabrication, and looks a TON better then handlebar mounting IMO.

Just wanted to show it off if anyone else is interested in mounting up external speakers on a Standard/Tourer.

I have been looking at some packages on cycle tunes, or good deals. Didn't like the way, nor the places they mounted the speakers.  You idea looks great, out of the way but still close enough to get a good sound.  Guess I know what I am gonna order for the Valkyrie next.   Thanks great idea.

Harley Deuce risers. 6 inch pullback. They work great with the 8° rake kit on her trike.

Did you need to do any modifications to cables or bike. I have a STD. Did it come with what you needed to install?

I can't say too much about cable modification as it is on a trike with a rake kit and 2" fork extensions. Because of that it had to have longer brake lines installed; can't say if the OEM will work. As far as the throttle cables, they are stock; but again, I don't know if the rake kit has an effect on the geometry of cable length, pullback etc. I can say there is plenty of length with my setup.

As far as the risers themselves, some have a small metal tab on the bottom that needs cut/ground off. They are tapped with SAE thread (not metric). I bought special studs that are SAE on one end to thread into the risers and metric on the other to use the OEM nuts on the triple tree end. Can't remember where I bought them, someplace on the net.
