I have recently noticed a clunk in the drive line when I throttle up or down (change from acceleration to deceleration) in any given gear.  I dont remember hearing this before, but do not think this is normal.  Undecided  Sound seems to be coming from area of u-joint.  Spline lube has always been done at normal intervals, I put new tire on recently and splines were just fine, have always tightened the last 4 bolts on final drive AFTER wheel installation, per instructions.   I have 52K on the clock- have pulled trailers.

There does not seem to be any vibration or unusual noises.  .  .  . but I suspect the u-joint.  Have ordered u-joint and boot-  am I on the right track?
Could there be other possible causes for the clunk?
Thx

You can inspect the u-joint be removing the rear brake pedal assembly and reservoir, pulling back the swingarm boot.

You can do this on the sidestand but lifting the rear tire allows better inspection practice.

About 2 hours ago I took my Valk out for a test drive. Just installed a new u-joint. I can't believe how much better it feels (drive train) when opening / closing the throttle and shifting. Wasn't sure it was a u-joint so I started removing one piece at a time. Was surprised how bad the u-joint was and still worked. Would have parked it much earlier if I knew it's condition.

Took 10 days to get the part through HDL but the price was good about $65.

The rubber dampners in the wheel can cause the clunk as well cooldude

Probably U-joint, but could be dampers or splines.

Yes, thanks for the advice on the dampers.

I forgot to say, installed new dampers last winter and the old ones were done for!  Smiley
I will replace the u-joint soon, looks likely to be the problem.
I will post with results when done!
Thanks, all!

Don't over look the brake calipers.  They float and have been known "clunk" under hard acceleration and braking.
