I may be having a starter button problem, but was just wondering if there is a way to "jump' or bypass the button in case you were out on the road. I had a vtx and there was a way to do this. Any thoughts much appreciated......

Yep get a stater button from napa and wire it between the relay.  Don't ask me how I know this.

In an emergency if you can't roll it down the hill and pop the clutch, turn the key on and  take the right side cover off.  Take a pair of pliers or screwdriver, whatever will contact the two large terminals on the starter relay and short them.  That puts 12v straight from the battery to the starter.
Easier to just park downhill and put the bike in 2nd, turn on the key, get it rolling, then let the clutch out abrupltly.  Should crank easily enough.

As the other jent said if you cant roll start it.
Jump the 2 sides of the relay.
But
Use the biggest flat blade screw driver you have.
With a pair of pliers it can almost weld themselves to a terminal.
The spark may scare the heck out of you.
You wont melt though.
