Out for a ride today and the engine made two stumbles, one burp and three seconds later another burp. I had 85 miles since the fill up. I switched to reserve (Pingle) and headed to the nearest station. Put in three gallons (normal - 31 mpg.) switched back to open positon on the Pingle and headed home. No problem the rest of the way.
Any thoughts??
TIA

Yup, search it. Doesn't happen a lot but members have noted occurences. Thought to be ignition related. Read once about checking the ground. Mine has done it twice since 2002, in 40K in miles.

You might check plug wires, I recently replaced a faulty one on my 2001 Standard with 14k on it. It would intermittently stumble and miss on 2 cylinders. It felt electrical not fuel related as some thought. I too replaced the OEM petcock with a Golan and pingel filter. The motorcycle has run as it should since. I noticed too that there are small parts in the plug wires, removable brass engagement, spring and 5k ohm resistor, I think they might need r&r over the life of the bike.

Had the same thing happen to me on my 99 twice in the last 13 years. Both times I was hundreds of miles from home. Not sure what it was either.

More than likely related to EMI.
A transient experience.
Most probably more common with greater use of higher echelon electronic systems.

I'm going to replace the "top" part of the starter solinoid. 97" standard, 50,000 miles. The original melted last year and I did a quick repair by cutting the old burned plug off and attaching insulated wire connectors to each wire to plug into the bottom plug pins. Now it's time to do it right. I've searched the archieves and can't find the info on using an older Goldwing starter solinoid connector that requries you to move one of the wire connectors over one slot.
anyone have the info?

Okay, here ya go, now save it this time, there is a lot of good information in this document. http://www.jkozloski.com/generic_parts.htmWhat you are looking for is on the bottom right column. You need the part #32110-ML8-305 I've had that part in MGM for about 35K now. If you have added lights, and they are not on a relay, you might as well buy 2 or 3 as you will need them. This was the result of no relay.

Mine burped on me yesterday as we were heading home. Still had 3 bars on the fuel guage, went ahead and switched to reserve and filled up 10 miles later with about 4 gallons. I am certain though that it is a transient ignition problem. I was pulling a head wind and holding right at 3500 rpm. I turned off the ECT mod control also. In my mind, it has been more noticeable since I did that. It still doesn't happen often (rarely), but the two times over the last 5 years I have noticed it, there has been a head wind and running right at 3500 rpm. Makes me wonder if the ECM is having trouble transitioning between the forced advance and normal operation..... Dang bike is just not dependable, I need to buy another one... What's wrong here is perspective. When dragons hit birds, they consume them. They don't land in the Hudson, they burp, possibly fart (sounds like backfire) on decel, but they always need more fuel to get ready for the next bird.

Must be something in the air these days. Mine did the same thing last Thursday. First time it has ever done that in 32k. I thought it was fuel related also but the tank was over half full.
