Just changed out my rear tire, installed Gary's dampners and shock bushings.

This is my fifth rear tire, the last one was on for an extended period before change out and I was beginning to worry about the rear spline service interval.  Alas, no worries

Splines still as new after 73K

I have used the same lube from my first change out ..............Loctite Moly Paste 51048, has my stamp of approval .............. https://www.rshughes.com/products/079340_51048.html

Gary's dampners made a noticeable difference in driveline slack and the previous shock bushings were Gary's as well, only showing signs of slight wear with about 35K on them.  cooldude

We got a can of that loctite stuff at Graingers when we did Stanley Steamer's bike...

I've since noticed that it is available at Amazon...

I've gotten some other moly paste at Amazon too...

And mostly I've used the Honda stuff... I'm good with anything that claims to be
60% moly paste, since that's what the manual sez to use...

I'm partial to the container the Honda paste comes in. I keep cutting it down so that
the contents are right at the top, easy to get at.

Judd,

The rest of your motorcycle looks equally good, too.

Pluggy
Stu, I was thinking the same thing. Always liked the black with studs, and he has speakers as well.  cooldude

By the way, I just ordered some of that Loctite moly paste from Graingers here in Orlando. Should be in tomorrow, right to the house from their warehouse in Jax. They'll drop ship to the customer, don't know why more companies don't. Saves the customer money and time.

Jeff, you're so right. Took me nearly four months of working on his bike to earn it.

Judd, my order of that Loctite moly paste came today and I put it to use. That's neat stuff, I applied it about as your picture shows, sure hope it's as good as you say.

Guard Dog also makes two formulas of their Moly paste.

http://www.guarddogmolylubricants.com/prod-moto.shtml

GD-525 Moly Grease
A synthetic grease with 30% molybdenum disulfide.
GD-570 Moly Paste
        With 73% molybdenum disulfide.

Comes in a small jar that works well for me.

The Loctite Moly Paste is what I also use.  It is 65% moly and has been excellent for my splines.  Another plus is that the cap for the jar it comes in has a brush on the inside of the cap, which can be used to "paint" the moly onto the splines.  Since Honda recommends a minimum moly content of 40% in moly paste used, this Loctite Moly Paste is well above "minimum requirements".

I was looking for the moly content in the Loctite but didn't see it. It is 65% for sure? If so I found it on Ebay for $28.99 with free shipping.

Yes, it is 65% moly.  The online company seeling it advertised that fact and I called the company that makes it (Henkel) to confirm.  Just pulled my rear wheel after getting only 8,600 miles on Metzelers.  The splines looked as lubed as the day I did them with Loctite moly paste.  The moly paste stayed on with no slinging or running.

Local Honda stealer has it as well, small tube surprisingly cheaper than I thought it'd be.  Check your local dealer, call them.  I use an acid brush that I trimed back and reserve for just this purpose.
