I'm shopping around for motorcycle insurance for my 1999 I/S and trying to find a good rate? Can anyone tell me where the most affordable and how much you pay month/year and the company name? I currently pay $240.00 a year and I think that is outrageous but maybe I'm wrong

try allstate, having full coverage except no medical payments for around 170.00 per 12 month premium.  Progressive was a close 2nd for me try them also.
All I can say is pays to shop around and depends on location as well within each insurance company where located  makes a difference.

That's right, depends on where you live. I checked every where and ditto on Allstate & Progressive. Allstate was cheaper, but Progressive had a lower deductible + $3,000 on accessories for just a few $ more.  I pay about $140 full coverage in TN. (Progressive)

Are you guys talking full coverage? I pay $19 a month for Allstate, liability only. Kinda risky if I damage it.

My bike insurance was $258 this year for all 3 bikes.  I have full coverage on the '01 valk I/S with 5K in extra coverage and a 250 ded along with boosted liability on my '06 vtx1300r and '95 cbr600f3.  That is in ohio through progressive based on the older than dirt discount.......any way that's what FLO calls it.

When I first got the CBR the insurance was a killer at over 400 a year for just liability.....yeah I wasn't quite as old as dirt back then but REAL close crazy2

Well, you guys are getting it real cheap down there.  I pay $882/yr up here for full coverage.  And we can only drive it 6 months out of the year.

These threads pop up several times a year, but usually are not very helpful.  To state “I pay $XXX per year for ‘full coverage’” does not mean anything.

Liability is usually fairly cheap, especially if you are looking at the state minimum.  Even liability insurance in the mid triple digits is not too expensive.  Bikers are usually the loser in the accident.

My UIM is more than twice the amount of my liability insurance.  I am sure the amount of the premium is going to vary greatly depending on whether the limits are 25,000/50,000 or 300,000/500,000.

Med pay is a real killer.  My quote for $25,000 med pay more than doubled my premium.

Finally, collision, comprehensive, etc., is likely to be fairly reasonable.  Unless one pays extra for accessories, our bikes are now worth about $6,000 or less.  And if totaled in an accident, there is probably about a 50% chance (or more) that someone else is responsible (at fault) for the loss.

Here is an example of a Progressive Policy for Indiana, rider with 5 years no claims:

$36   Liability $100,000/$300,000/$50,000
$104   UIM $100,000/$300,000
$2   UIM Property Damage $10,000
$16   Comprehensive ($500 deductible)
$45   Collision ($500 deductible)
$0   Accessory coverage $3,000 (no additional charge)
$10   Roadside Assistance

$213   TOTAL (Annual Premium) (less $17 if paid in full at renewal)

$268   $25,000 in medical payments (I do not carry med pay, but this was the quote).

$481   TOTAL with med pay

Therefore, I pay less than $200 per year for “full coverage,” but could easily change my quote from the same company for the same insured to almost $500 per year for the same coverage with the addition of med pay coverage.

Simply stating that my premium is $XXX results in the most extreme example of comparing apples to oranges (And we have not even considered age, driving record/history, claim history, or discounts for homeowner/multiple vehicles/etc.)

Wow, if I was paying 882 per year for just cycle insurance I'd not be owning a cycle.  That is about what I pay for my house, cycle, and 2 car's combined -  OUCH!!

I have a policy on the blue bike where I pay $250 year.  Full coverage, and Med pay.  They don't WRITE new bike policies though... and I have the IS under another company.  I pay $500 per annum on that one.
