Just installed a couple of Motosens guages. The oil temp gauge barely gets to 175 degrees F when the fan kicks on. Is this about correct? TIG

Hey wobray,
I too have the Motosens gauges and, unless I'm in heavy stop and go traffic or it's very hot outside, I almost always see the oil temp significantly lower than the water temp. If I don't let the bike warm up fully before riding, even my water temp rarely gets to 175 before I get to a stop light somewhere.

The oil temp is in no way directly related to when the fan kicks on. The fan pulls air through the rediator which is filled with coolant, not oil. Check the water (coolant) temp gauge. As Disco noted. oil temp is usually lower than coolant temp.

If you take a long hard ride up a hill with the wind against you maybe you will see the temp go higher. Like Rico said oil and water temps are 2 different things and that oil temp is about right what you would expect.

With my sidecar rig, I run around 220 oil temp, using a Tel-Tec gauge for a dipstick.

My oil temp runs around 210-220°F at stabilized cruise. Coolant temp is running around 160-180° depending on the OAT. -RP

My oil temp runs around 210-220°F at stabilized cruise. WOW, I don't think I've ever seen mine that high even on the way home from InZane last year in AR where the ambient temps were 110+.

Via my Motosens gauge.... 175° pretty much always, unless I am in stop-and-go traffic on really hot days.

Out on the highway, my Tru Tel reads 210*, and it doesn't budge till I slow down. My fan hardly ever comes on.

I'm usually right around 200 on my Tel-Tru dipstick gauge, but on really hot days and extended high speed riding, it might get to 220.

I have motosens water temp and that reaches 175 ish, the tel tru dip-stick measuring the oil is much higher - over 200F. Seems about the same as most folks experiences.
Bike seems happy at these readings. they never go much higher, but sometimes lower.

Mp's side car will raise the temp, also uses more fuel. We rode to Wisconsin on I90, I got 35-40 mpg, on my Tourer, his IS with sidecar 25-30. Don't slow it down much, though Hoser

IMHO Motosens gauges are really good. But then, I'm an addict! .jpg) The fuel gauge is the latest one (far left). HH
