On #2 and 4 where the throttle plate shafts meet, there is a sync screw & spring. Actually there are two springs on the sync screw. Looking at the tab on #2 throttle shaft, I think (I'm not where I can see them at the moment) there are no indications or marks of where or how it interfaces with the sync screw on #4. It doesnt look like it would go in between the spring and there are no marks on the tab that would show if its on top of the spring or bottom. Add to that there are two "tits" that protrude to hold the second spring in place. So were does this thing attach? I thought I took lots of pics and wrote notes but I guess I didnt get a clear one of that. I didnt see any reference in the "book" & I searched the forum and looked at a lot of pics, but no joy Can some one guide me please Thanks D

I have no idea what you are trying to figure out. Maybe these photos will help. Note that these photos were taken with the help of a mirror so everything looks backwards even though these are the linkage between carbs 2 and 4. Bigwolf

Hi Mr B...How ya doin? Yes, we can do that...if nothing else have an adult beverege or whatever together. Do you ever go the the main street pub across the street from the Humble cafe? I see a black valk parked there often. Say when so I can check my sched. Thank you very much for your offer. I am gonna look at wolfs pics...I think thats exactly what I need. I was thinking about maybe flagging down a valk just to look at the linkage...dumb azz me...should taken more pics!

Big Wolf....thats very very close to what I am looking for. I couldnt see how the tab (the one with the sync screw and springs) actuated the other tab on the other carb. When I get home tonight I'll try to put it together like your pic. Man, thanks a million for taking the effort to take those pics..I really really do appreciate it.

if it's the one in the middle, it (attaches) to nothing, just sits between the linkages.

PCV...I see it! Its in the 1st pic, the 3rd & 4th pic. In #3, the piece of linkage with the yellow nut on it has a bent tab on the end . I can now see that that tab fits between the lower sync spring and that the tip of the sync screw its self rests on top of the tab. Turning the screw will move that tab in order to open and close the butterfly its attached to. Thats where my confusion was...whether that tab fit between the lower spring coils of the sync screw assembly or on the bottom of the lower spring mount. Now I think I can put this thing back together. Thats a lot of stuff crammed into a tight space..springs tubes and so on. Are in still working on those carbs or are those pics from the past? Man those carbs look as nasty as mine and its a 2000! Thanks again for the pics and help. I'll be glad when this task is done.

Gentlemen....thank you for all of your cards and letters... Actually the posts and pics. I was finally able to get it all back together in a matter of a few hours. It went together pretty fast after I saw the the last set of pics. Best of all I dont have any parts left over! LMAO I still have a lot to do to the bike including desmog, brake pads, pull the wheels and treat them for corrosion and so on, but I may have this thing running by monday...then I'll have to check the sync and tweak as necessary Thanks again guys...I really appreciate your help and advice. D

Dozer, I am glad the pictures helped you get the carbs back together. I will be reassembling mine in a couple of weeks as I still have to do a desmog and a few other things to the bike before I am ready to install. She sat for a year as I was not able to ride her and the carbs were in nasty shape. I can't wait to see how she runs with the clean carbs.

I think that most would agree that when you detail strip the carburetor bank, that prior to re-installing the bank,
A mechanical synchronization would be a recommended thing to do.

Ricky D..I will do a sync. No point in going this far and not doing it. I havent disturbed the initial settings much so visually, they look close to each other. I counted the turns on the sync screws when I took them apart and put them all back to the same place.. I think I am gonna try Patricks method using one gage, some tubing and a T fitting.

Its okay Mr B...my sched gets messed up all the time. I can hardly count on my time off either. Some trips get canceled, some are added and some are just plain standby so I relate to your situation. We'll get meet up eventually. I'm happy my son isnt in a huge hurry to get his bike back! I am fixin to get started on the desmog mod...gonna do Rich's shiny desmog and I'll probably have a dozen more questions....but I learn fast in spite of being an old dog!
