The choke cable is $24.94 at HDL (Part #17950-MZ0-000 includes $7.50 handling/shipping fee).  Maybe you can find it for less somewhere else.

Until you get a new cable, I believe you can move the choke manually.  Just need to trace where the cable connects and push the slide with a screwdriver (or similar).

Good luck.

Just replaced mine. Remove the cover over the choke cables on the
left side between the intake risers and the carbs and you will be able to
 operate by hand until replaced.

Got mine here:

That is on the to DO list!

john, i've read your choke conversion previously and that is VERY good work.  of course here in the desert, i never use it and the bike starts up immediately EVERY time.  might be a year or so before i even know mine was not working.

You can use a flat blade screwdriver to push slides on the left side. It will also move the slideon the  other side until your new cable comes in.

Speaking of chokes. Of all of the engines I have done shadetree mechanic work on all of these years the Valk needs less choke than any 4 cycle engine I have ever seen.

You're right Shooter, and since I put in #38 slow jets a few years back I can't recall the last time I even used the choke. Might have been my last trip north but doubt it.

As for changing out the wires, read my write-up in Shop Talk on how to do it and retain the OEM boots. First requirement is to have an ample amount of alcohol on hand. Not the drinking kind, the rubbing kind. Makes stuff like ignition wires real slick when you pull them through a rubber boot. Drys quick and leaves no residue.

Hey John, when ya goin to make some kits to sell to us that don't have the time to build it?

I've used the damn screw driver option now for 2 years.   Either I'm too busy or too damn lazy to fix/build a replacement.

When ever ya do built some, put my name at the top of the list, I'll take the 1st one hot off the press.

RJ, I've had a bunch of inquiries and requests in the last couple years, must be the cables are getting weak and worn. They were mostly direct emails but a few from here. I'd have to find a new source for SS since my old one went out of business. I might just look into it sometime this summer, have no idea what I'd sell it for. Guess maybe I could put it on ebay and see what it goes for, then cut that price about 2/3.  Wink

I'm still jealous of John's setup. Were I not so cursed lazy I'd no longer be jealous.

Anyhoo, I have a choke cable from my drag bar conversion. It's yours if you want it.

My choke cable gave way a couple of months ago. I bought a used one from ebay, and installed it. I couldn't believe the very very small swag on the end where it joins (and broke) up with the choke lever. It works really well - especially since the entire choke system is now properly lubricated!
