I'm in DC for 4 days for a reunion with people I worked with MANY years ago.

Walking around saw this cool looking bike, a Cleveland.  Don't remember seeing one before.

Got a chance to got to the Supreme Court on a special tour in the court.  Very interesting.

But they DO NOT allow any pictures in the court!  Evil

More interesting things tomorrow then home on Sunday.

I went to Washington a couple of months ago.  If you get a chance go to Arlington and try to get some time at Robert E. Lee's mansion.

Unforgetable.

I found visiting The Wall to be personally devastating, humbling, unexpectedly powerful.

There's two people on that Wall that I knew from high school.  I'm sure the Wall would have the same effect on me too.   Cry

True,  is the Washington monument open yet?  Any idea when it will open?

Several people from my high school there in addition to a cousin of mine also.  I took my daughter there a few years back and she was crying as she saw our last name and heard his story.

the wall is a very moving experience.
Especially the visitors who look at it through misty eyes, see friends names and wonder why them and not me too.

The WWII memorial did not impress me. I do not think it depicted the horror of what the world went through. The horror and sacrifice that is being forgotten.
The Roosevelt memorial was very impressive, I thought. It has many quotes by Roosevelt that are poignant yet today.
There is one part with bronze statues of people in a bread line. Unfortunately some visitors used it as a photo op, posing and laughing while standing in between the statues. Sorry, that was not a funny time in this country and the non-understanding and disrespect kinda bothered me. Maybe they never listened to their grandparents.

A trip to DC is worth it. You can travel almost anywhere on the Metro-it's cheap and safe.
My wife and I were at a station and we must have looked lost. Several people came up to us and offered help in picking the right train to take. That was a welcome surprise!

The various Smithsonian museums will keep you busy as long as you want.

Last pics of Washington.  Big festivities here this weekend for Memorial Day.  Hundreds of motorcycles at Lincoln memorial this morning.  i took a trip to the Library of Congress.

Fancy restricted reading room inside.

Out front is an nice fountain with Neptune, his son Triton, and various sea nymphs.  don't really know what neptune is holding onto.

His sea nymph is looking cool in the fountain.

Then across the street to the Capitol.

To the tourist destinations, that is true, but most of NW DC is not served by the trains. If you want to hit up Adams Morgan, you're going to have to hoof it from a station or catch a cab. Georgetown is a dicey 30 min walk or so from Foggy Bottom and doing that walk once was enough for me.

At one point I considered looking for a house in upper NW (Alaska Ave area) and it is a no-mans-land in regards to the metro.

I wish our system was like NYC's system in the sense that it does indeed go pretty much everywhere.
