a full sized cow laying in the rumble strip on the side of the road.....all black with a white face.....not sure if it had been hit by a vehicle or not.....

I've certainly seen a lot of cows in places they really should't be, including roads.. You didn't say how good a condition the cow was in ,, like ,, still breathing or not.. Cows are nothing but a lot of trouble stuffed into a leather bag ,, the only ones I like to see are the ones in my freezer..

When I was young, a friend of mine was hauling ass down a dark road in his VW Bug. Unexpectedly, a Cow came across the road and he crashed right into it, with the Cow landing on his windshield. Cow, driver and Bug went down an embankment.   When the cops showed up, the Cow was badly hurt but still alive so they shot her. Then they dragged his ass to the hospital where he spent a couple of weeks badly hurt.  IMHO, my friend was stupider than the Cow.  From there on, everything he said was arguably "Bull Poop."  PS: I hope he's not reading this post!  |

A few months ago we had one of our tractor trailers hit a cow in Nebraska on a highway at night. Cow broke the front axle and the truck ended up in a shallow ravine. Truck and trailer were both totaled, and most of the product in the trailer had to be sent back to the shipper. The driver spent a couple of days in the hospital. Cows are trouble. Mad Cows are more trouble.

Many years ago a freind centerpunched a 1200 lb. steer in Nebraska late at night with his Harley. He died. RIP Junior. Had'nt thought about that in years. Hoser |

No.....I'm pretty sure it was dead.....but not for too long because it wasn't stinking yet....if it was hit by a car, it must have been on the side that was touching the pavement...... Cows do get out of their pastures around here sometimes....when trees have knocked fences down or if a gate wasn't shut tight...... It looked like a TALL bag of trash from a distance.......just never seen a dead cow on the side of the road.......plenty of possums and armadillos, skunks and squirrels and etc......  |

A friend of a friend hit a cow on her bike. It didn't kill her but did break both her arms among many other injuries.

Stanley, you need to get out in the country more often. Thats what happen when a city slicker journeys out side the city limits. They see a lot of things never seen before. One time when I and my youngest daughter were in Yeller Stone on the bike, we came upon a group of Asian's stranding in the road, 1 girl hanging onto the side of a cow and another one shooting pictures. Worst part, this was right around mating season. The one with the camera and the young lady were actually in deep sheet getting that close. I stopped, got ahold of their driver and told him to get those two out of there before a bull saw that cow. He relucrtanly got them out and loaded up. The Bull happened to see them and charged the side of their bus. Kid and I figured they had plenty of metal between them and the Bull, so we made tracks. |

Friend of mine here in central IL hit one in his car last year. He gets a new car now.
I always get a little nervous driving the rig out west and cross the signs that say "open range". That means no fence to those who don't know.
I was out west earlier this year and passed by a moose standing on the shoulder. I was going 74 mph and was very much suprised at how freakin big it was. It would of caused serious damage to my vehicle...and my vehicle weighs 40 tons and stands a shade under 13'6". Glad I wasn't on the bike.
