Momz,   read the article twice...  where does it say that?

The motorcyclist, 43-year-old Russell Vernon Gray of St. Clair Shores, wasn't wearing a helmet, but Ernatt said a helmet likely wouldn't have saved his life.

The varticle was written by a newspaper reporter.
 The comments were made by a sposkesperson for AAA on a broacast, not in the newspapaer.

73% of bike crashes involve riders that are not wearing proper eye protection...

Relavance?  Nada.  Just a good stat.

I wear a helmet and gloves.  Almost always.  But I believe in the right to make your own choice.

The thing that gets my goat more so is that fact this drunk driver will at the worst get 15 years in jail. He killed another innocent man. What is wrong with this. Last weekend their was another couple sitting at an intersection waiting to turn right when a drunk driver run into the back of their Goldwing. He killed the woman and critically injured the man. Of course he didn't see them. And, once again the worst he'll get is 15 years.

I have reflected on this for many, many years.  We kill 50,000 people a year in motor vehicle accidents.  Not sure if it your "right" to drive,or if we as a people have become so callused.  It is wrong, just not sure how it should be.  Drunks get drunk on purpose and then drive on purpose...not much different than pulling out a gun...

Maybe if the motorcycle rider wore a helmet and high visability gear (as recommended by Micheal Prince of the Michigans Office of Highway Planning and Safety) the pick-up driver would not have been drinking!  uglystupid2

Politicians and the insurance industry are playing games to make motorcyclists pay more and more to enjoy the freedoms we rightly deserve.

Concerned bikers need to get politically involved,...complaints will fall on deaf ears.
Join the AMA, ABATE, MRF, FEMA (international MRO), and the political party of their choice.

When the government attaches 'strings' (special insurance) to 'allow' you to ride without a helmet, you are getting screwed, it just doesn't seem as blatant. Sad

I'm a Charter Life member of the AMA.  Never joined Abate.
